These DIY Household projects are the perfect past-time for those long summer days, when it’s too hot to be outside under the sun! They’re super easy, requiring minimal effort, with maximum results. DIY just got a whole lot easier! Get Creative!

1. Wall Hangings

Customize your walls with these DIY Wall Hangings. Costing up to hundreds of $$$ in store, they’re are SUPER easy to make at home for a fraction of the price! To start off with all you need is a wooden rod attached to string/rope to hang from. From this, the possibilities are endless! Either tear up a desired sized square of material from an old white bedsheet and use some food colorings to create a cool tie-dye cloth hanging, or hang cute polaroid’s of your BFFs for a cool photo display, or attach coloured pompoms for a funky decorative piece. Just pick a wall, and get creative.

2. Book Shelves

Turn your old, unwanted books into the EPIC (and literal) Book Shelves! They’re super interesting, and are great for office decoration – or for any room really! Bunch together a few books – 10 maximum. First, super glue each front and back cover of every book together, so that they are all lined up and conjoined, making sure the tops of the books are all level (this will be the shelf area) Then take an old metal kebab skewer and pierce it through the top of the books, so that they are internally joined. The DIY Book Shelf is now ready to hang!

3. Food Storage

A well-organized pantry is such an aesthetically pleasing site…and it’s not a great, low hassle DIY household project. All you need are glass jars (of varying sizes), a sheet of stick labels and a black marker. Start with the large jars of food items, such as cereals, rice, pasta, oats – things you tend to use on a regular bases. This is a great way of emptying out you cupboards and discovering foods items that you’d previously forgotten you even had? Things like granola bars, cakes, cookies, and be arranged with jars in cute patterns – there really are no rules to this!

4. Mini Terrarium

Such a cute DIY project, and a great way of adding a bit of greenery to any room without going too OTT. Mini Terrarium’s are often SUPER expensive to buy in-store – yet they’re so easy to make at home! All you need is a large glass jar, some soil (from the back yard) and 2-3 plants of your choice! You can either buy pre-potted plants from a garden center (super cheap) or you can opt to buy the seeds and grow them plants yourself! You can also add extra mini statues or bits of décor for the Terrarium – it’s a totally customizable DIY project, looks impressive, and so simple to make!

5. Bottle Vases

Leading off the last DIY Terrarium, these DIY Vases are so easy and such a great way to re-use old glass bottles. Take an empty glass wine/liqueur bottle/oil bottle and remove all excess labels. In the bottle pour a small amount of paint (any color) and a small amount of water. Then put the lid on the bottle and shake the bottle until the paint has coated the entire inside of the bottle – then remove the bottle, pour out any excess paint and leave to dry. Once dry, it’s ready to use as a funky, colorful flower vase – such a cool DIY project to try!

6. Patchwork Pillows

Customize your pillows and cushions with these DIY Patchwork Pillows. All you need is spare bits of pattered cloth, a plain white pillow case, needle and thread, and any extra bead/buttons/accessories. There really is no set pattern to follow, just sew on any patches of patterned cloth, along with a couple of beads and buttons here and there in order to create the perfect patchwork pattern for you!
