Are you looking for a new hobby to try out? There are so many to choose from it can be hard to figure out where to start. Try giving one of these a chance; you can pick something like painting, or maybe you’d be more interested in sculpting.

No matter what, this list will have plenty of hobbies that you can try out for yourself.

1. Painting

Painting has so many different types of mediums, styles, and techniques. You have a lot of freedom to express yourself by experimenting with all these mediums. Some of the different mediums you can try to include watercolor, oil, acrylic, and gouache painting. There are a few more, but these are some of the main ones you can experiment with.

You can experiment with how you paint and whatever technique you want. Painting is all about how you feel and express yourself.

2. Sketching

Sketching is usually the rough drawing of an idea they have for finished work and is usually not considered finished work. Sketching can be great for journaling, mapping out ideas, and more.

Maybe you write and want to sketch out a storyboard for your story, or you want to journal what you see in life by sketching in a journal.

Sketching is considered a less refined form of drawing, and you can use it to quickly mark down your creative ideas for a future project or story you are working on.

3. Pottery

Pottery is where you create different items and art pieces with clay and other ceramic materials. It has been around for thousands of years, and the first pottery wheel was invented around 6,000 and 4,000 BCE.

There are so many possibilities when creating pottery. You can create fruit bowls, mugs, bowls, and so much more. It doesn’t have to be a simple fruit tray or bowl. You can create it in any way you’d like. You can add faces to bowls, add shapes, and words; there are so many possibilities.

4. Jewelry Making

If you want to get into making your own jewelry, there are many different styles that you can choose from.

Assembled jewelry making is when you take pre-made charms, chains, gems, and other jewelry findings and string them together to make jewelry. This is considered hand-assembled rather than handmade, but it is a fun way of creating necklaces, bracelets, and earrings.

Wire-wrapped jewelry making is where you wrap the flexible wire around a gemstone or around itself. With this technique, you can make any type of jewelry, but pendants are popular. You can experiment with the shapes you create and what you wrap your wire around.

Handstamped jewelry is where the creator personally stamps each letter and shape into the jewelry. You can create custom jewelry for friends and family and sell them. You can create rings, bracelets, and jewelry.

These aren’t the only options out there when it comes to jewelry making, and you can choose from countless techniques.

5. Crocheting

Crocheting is a hobby that has been growing in popularity recently, with more and more people learning how to crochet their own clothes and stuffed animals. This is where you use a crochet hook to create blankets, clothes, purses, toys, and more.

You can crochet for friends or also sell it online. There are hundreds of crocheting projects that you can try out, ranging from simple hats or even a full outfit.

6. Knitting

This is similar to crocheting, but it uses two knitting needles to create garments, and it can be done by hand or machine. The knitted fabric has a pretty elastic nature, lightweight, and there are other advantages.

7. Diamond Art

Diamond art is similar to painting by number but uses small ‘diamonds’ to place the color in the assigned place. You can buy smaller beginner projects up to larger ones.

The canvas is covered with a glue-type substance so that the diamonds stick, and each spot has a code that matches a certain color. The diamonds are so small that you use a small pen to pick them up. The end of the pen has a small hole that you stick into wax that comes with the kit, or you can find it online. Once your pen has the wax, that helps pick up the small gemstones.

11. Sewing

Sewing is using stitches to attach objects or fabric. You can use sewing to mend clothes and create clothes, toys, or other objects.

You can hand sew or buy a sewing machine to sew with.

If you want to start sewing with a machine, you can find fabric at most stores and patterns for adults, children, dolls, and animal clothes. Or you can find some patterns online for beginner hand sewing and machine projects.
