10 Classy, Comfy Outfits To Wear For New Year’s Eve

Whether your family hosts a giant party every December thirty-first (we know the type: live streams from New York, lots of champagne) or if you usually end up staying in for a quiet night, it’s nice to celebrate the coming of the new year in style. After all, the sixty-second countdown is only an annual occasion, and by looking and feeling your best, you’ll be giving yourself the best start for the next upcoming three hundred and sixty-five days. There’s no need to empty your bank account or don an Oscar-worthy gown, just experiment with the following styles and see which ones spark the most joy for you. Here are 10 classy, comfy outfits to wear for New Year’s Eve.

1. Grey Trousers

Are you a minimalist? Do you like looking great without a big fuss? Well, then a great pair of tailored trousers (we recommend looking at Zara) may just be your new best friend! Despite looking super chic, trousers are often extremely comfortable, so you’ll be looking fabulous without feeling out of your element. Just pair with a (clean) pair of white kicks, a long-sleeved dark top, some tousled tresses, and a bright lip color for a three-minute ensemble that looks like it took thirty.

2. Red Velvet Dress

When done right, velvet can look elegant, and could be just what you’re looking for if you’re headed to a high-end new year’s eve party. Plus, a fit-and-flare velvet frock is ideal for the girl who’s reserved but not afraid to express herself! Since a dress like the one below marries classic fit and a more modern texture (velvet is more ’90s and beyond, a timeless fit could be inspired by the ’50s or before), we recommend sticking to that balance as you accessorize. Try pairing chunky rings with a classic red lip, or Hollywood waves with modern shoes.

3. Contemporary Kimono

There’s something about flowing silhouettes that we can’t get enough of. And a modern kimono-style wrap in a pretty pattern is perfect for adding some movement to your outfit and will go wonderfully with your favorite pair of heels. A statement piece like the one below will look great with either slimmer jeans or looser boyfriend-style ones. Pick one or two other accessories as your secondary focal points (such as a nice bag or some drop earrings) and you’ll be walking around in some celebration-worthy style!

4. Light Pink Sweater

A sweater may not sound like the most fashionable thing to wear to celebrate the coming of the new year, but if you pair a high-quality one with intricate details with pretty makeup and a few delicate accessories, you are sure to look like a million bucks. We’re drawn to lighter colors like this pink one because it’s so quintessentially feminine (we could picture Audrey Hepburn rocking a similar look back in the day). Just put on a sweater (like the one shown below), some blush and mascara, and your favorite jeans, and you’re good to go!

5. Polka Dot Dress

A dark dress with lighter details (such as a black and white polka dot pattern like the one below) reminds us of the night sky on new year’s eve, making this dress a great pick for the holiday. The fit is entirely up to you, although we tend to go after slightly more modern picks (should old acquaintance be forgot), such as a belted high-low style. This type of frock pairs really well with red details, but try and stick to one statement accessory if you can (for example, if you’re going for red heels, keep the makeup neutral).

6. Brown Suede Jacket

Suede has this way of transforming any outfit into a work of art. Plus, with clothing stores making more of an effort to create leather-inspired pieces minus the animals, you’ve likely got a plethora of options to choose from! Our favorite way to wear suede is in a warm brown jacket, which looks and feels smoother than a fresh jar of skippy (bonus points to anyone who gets the reference). Like most other clothing items, a suede jacket looks its best when it’s balanced out by it’s opposite, which in this case would be a sweeter piece, such as a floral dress or a lace top (which counteracts the edge of the jacket). New Year’s Eve, here we come!

7. Sparkly Pencil Skirt

Nothing says new year’s eve like sparkles, and the go-to glittery new year’s outfit gets a sophisticated makeover in the form of a pencil skirt and dark denim top. Opting for a shimmering skirt (in either sequins or a sparkly pattern, your choice) that hits just at the knee is super flattering, and shows just enough leg without being distracting. Plus, streamlined design in a darker color (such as emerald green) will draw the attention back to your bright eyes. Add some strappy heels and a positive attitude to complete the gorgeous outfit.

8. Shorter Dress And Tights

We’re not completely ruling out above-knee styles for New Year’s Eve- we just like to accessorize and layer shorter dresses to keep warm and look stylish! For a party-worthy statement like the one below, opt for an above-knee dress in a fun color and pattern, and pair it with a jacket, tights, and ankle boots (preferably all dark and from the same color family). Cute!

9. Slip Dress And Tee-Shirt

The late ’90s and 2000s are definitely making a comeback, and following the trend is the perfect way to embrace the new year (along with any new trends that we may be seeing in 2020). For a low-key, yet put-together look, get yourself a black midi slip dress and pull it over a classic white tee-shirt. Add some vintage shoes or sneakers of your choice (with this particular style, we prefer Vans) and get ready to celebrate!

10. Girlfriend Jeans With Black Top

For those of you who haven’t heard of the girlfriend jean, it’s the boyfriend jean a bit more tailored to better fit a girlish physique. We love pairing these jeans with a black tee-shirt, and with some white three-inch heels and possibly some freshly done nails, you’ll be looking New-Year’s ready in no time!
