Best Songs About Relationships That We Can All Relate To

When it comes to music, some of the most relatable songs are those about dealing with a breakup, having a crush, or just dealing with any feelings or thoughts that come up when you enter a relationship. Here are the Best Songs About Relationships That We Can All Relate To.

Everyone has those relationship songs that feel a little too real sometimes when experiencing a positive feelings while dating or negative aspects like a breakup. Music is one of the best ways to relate to your own feelings through the words of others. This list contains some songs that express anything from the the way it feels to deal with your ex, tips on how to move on, and the feelings you get when developing a new crush through all different genres of music!

1. Single- The Neighbourhood

Jesse Rutherford, the lead singer of the band The Neighbourhood has written many beautiful songs dedicated to his long term girlfriend Devon Carlson, but my favorite of the relationship songs from the band definitely has to be Single from their 2015 album Wiped Out! This song discusses the intense feeling of love for someone who is a little bit younger than you. In the song which clearly references his relationship with Devon, Jesse even asks her dad for permission to date her with the lyrics stating, “Oh, so, Dave, would you let your baby be my girl?” Overall, the lyrics matched with the catchy tune make this a beautifully written track showing the importance of respect and commitment to the one you love most.

2. I Bet You Think About Me- Taylor Swift ft. Chris Stapleton

One of the most recent relationship songs that I can’t stop playing is I Bet You Think About Me by Taylor Swift, featuring Chris Stapleton. Taylor is the relationship queen herself, creating tons of top songs about the positive feelings of new love and happiness in a relationship, while also writing other pieces on the concepts of betrayal, confronting her exes, letting go of someone, and more. Taylor, who has released a lot of pop music in the past years, took it back to her country roots when collaborating with country artist Chris Stapleton on her re-recored Taylor’s Version of Red. This song became very popular very fast, especially as a sound on the app TikTok. The song takes a comedic twist on the idea of a breakup, making it a carefree hit off the new album. Taylor also just released a music video staring herself in it, directed by her close friend and celebrity favorite Blake Lively.

3. Abcdefu- GAYLE

If you have a TikTok account then you may find yourself unable to escape the audio from GAYLE’s breakup anthem, Abcdefu. This empowering female song has recently become a huge hit for the artist who sings a bout wanting to be the bigger person when it came to dealing with her ex, but her true feelings didn’t hold her back from straight up telling it how it is. GAYLE unleashes a big F-you towards her ex, telling him, his family, friends and art to all get lost, as she should. GAYLE has also released an abcdefu- angrier version and a chill version of the song. The 17 year old singer can relate to other teen fans her age, but also any older audience as well who may have similar built up feelings towards their ex. The song has even become a trend on TikTok, becoming a viral sensation and inspiration for other relationship songs out there.

4. Still Into You- Paramore

Still Into You has always been one of my favorite Paramore songs and is a refreshing track about the positive aspects of a relationship, unlike many other breakup ballads on this list. In this song, lead singer Hayley Williams sings about a former relationship with her ex Chad Gilbert. She discusses the feels of an unshakeable relationship, and how after all this time has passed, she still has strong feelings that she can’t get rid of. She sings about fond memories from that relationship, such as when she first confessed her love and meeting her ex boyfriend’s mother. Hayley has described this track has a happier love song compared to other pieces she has released, making it relatable to those who know too well that there are just some feelings you can’t suppress.

5. Traitor- Olivia Rodrigo

After Olivia Rodrigo released drivers license, we all knew she would become a big star, which can be backed up by her crazy success with her first album SOUR. Olivia’s beautiful voice mixed with her humble, endearing personality has made her the new “it” girl all over social media. Olivia may only be 18 years old, but she is no stranger when it comes to dealing with a relationship that didn’t end so well. She was very open when recalling her previous relationship with co-star Joshua Bassett and how quickly he moved on after dating Olivia. Many songs on the 2021 album refer to this passed relationship, with my favorite ballad being her song Traitor. This song looks back on her relationship, and even though her ex didn’t cheat, he still was a traitor for moving on so quickly.

6. Water Under The Bridge- Adele

Adele is another artist who captures all the feelings that come with being in a relationship, with many of her relationship songs relating to previous relationships and the concept of rejection. In Water Under The Bridge, Adele tells her ex if he’s going to let her down, let her down gently. She wants her ex to admit the love was real, as she is having trouble focusing on the vision of her being alone without him. Adele’s lyrics have always been relatable like other artists, yet her music also offers a sense of comfort and calmness to listeners.

7. So What- P!nk

To conclude this list of relationship songs is the one and only hit breakup anthem, So What by P!nk. In this song, P!nk references a previous relationship with her estranged husband. So What is a more comedic, light hearted take on love, yet is still very empowering for those who have gone through similar experiences that P!nk sings about. P!nk shows that despite any hurt that came with the relationship, it has made her stronger and care-free, and most importantly, more confident in loving herself.
