DiCaprio plays the dynamic role of J. Edgar Hoover in J. Edgar. Hoover was the head of the FBI for 50 years. In the movie DiCaprio plays the ruthless agent who will stop at nothing to keep the country safe.

5. Shutter Island (2010)

In Shutter Island DiCaprio plays a U.S. Marshal named Teddy Daniels. He and his partner are sent to Ashcliffe Hospital insane asylum. They are put on a suspicious case where a woman appears to have vanished from a locked room. As the movie continues Daniels realizes there is so much more to uncover, and that he will have to confront his fears on the island.

4. Catch Me If You Can (2002)

Catch Me If You Can is one of DiCaprio’s earlier millennial movies. The movie is about a young boy named Frank Abagnale who is the master of deception. He has pretended to play a pilot, doctor, and a lawyer. He becomes the most successful bank robber in the history of the FBI. An agent named Carl Hanratty (Tom Hanks) makes it his mission to capture him and bring him to justice. Throughout the movie DiCaprio’s character is always one step ahead of him.

3. Blood Diamond (2006)

In Blood Diamond DiCaprio plays a white South African mercenary in Sierra Leone during a civil war. He befriends a black Mende fisherman who has found a rare gem that has the potential to get him killed. With the help of DiCaprio’s character and a journalist, he tries to escape those trying to kill him and his family.

In this amazing five Academy Award nominated movie, DiCaprio plays billionaire and aviation tycoon Howard Hughes. While Hughes is a successful public figure, DiCaprio does a fantastic job of showing the private life of Hughes. Hughes is tormented and is suffering from paralyzing phobias. He also suffers from debilitation depression. The movie shows how hard Hughes tries not to lose all that he has.

1. What’s Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)

In this classic film Leonardo DiCaprio plays Arnie, a young mentally disabled brother to Gilbert, (played by Johnny Depp). The two hit it off in this movie; the acting is amazing. Truly an underrated film, this older movie is a wonderful example of Leonardo’s talented ability to fill literally any type of cinematic role.
