11 Reasons I Chose Mississippi State University

Mississippi State University is located in Starkville, MS. It’s a small town full of students with big dreams. At MSU you could find aspiring dairy farmers, great artists, and even landscape architects. People from every walk of life attend MSU. The campus is a very homey environment especially with how nice and friendly its students, faculty, and staff are. Why Mississippi State? Here is a list of all the reasons why I personally chose to attend Mississippi State University!

1. Bully the Bulldog & Maroon and White

Since I was a little girl, I have always loved animals, especially dogs. My mom and my favorite dog breed has been the bulldog since I could remember. It just seemed fitting to attend a school whose mascot is the very animal I grew up loving.

Also, every girl has that one color that they love to wear. Mine just so happens to be maroon. Coincidence? I think not!

2. Student to Faculty Ratio

The student/faculty ratio is 20:1. That means we have smaller class sizes and more one-on-one time with professors. How great it that? I’ll definitely be stopping by my prof’s office hours!

3. Greek Life

When decidingwhat college I wanted to attend, I had no idea whether or not I wanted to join Greek Life. I knew that I would want the chance to do it if I ever decided to join a sorority, so I wanted the option to be there. Now that I have decided I do want to join Greek Life, I’m glad I now have the chance to do so.

4. Undergraduate Research

Mississippi State is one of the leading undergraduate research universities in the country. Most universities don’t offer research opportunities until graduate school, so having an opportunity like this is great. It’ll help me gain knowledge in my field and experience what I need for graduate school and eventually for my career.

5. Degree Program

Not many schools offer my major – Biomedical Engineering. So finding schools that have it was a little difficult. Thankfully, Mississippi State is a college that is Biomedical Engineering friendly!

6. Shackouls Honors College

As a student, I have always been in the honors programs at my schools. It is something I am comfortable with, and I like the challenge. I wanted that same thing at college too! So, I applied and was accepted into the Judy and Bobby Shackouls Honors College.

7. Our Rich History

Mississippi State started out as an A&M school focused mainly on agriculture. MSU is still agriculture based, but it has broadened into areas such as veterinary medicine and architecture.

8. We Ring True

Cowbells. Oh, the cowbells. MSU is known for ringing cowbells during sporting events. It can get pretty loud. Mississippi State holds the record of most cowbells rung at one time in one place. How cool is that?!

9. Starkville

Starkville is a cute, little town, especially the Cotton District. Sure, there isn’t much to do, but the joy is in inventing new ways to have fun! Right?

10. Far (But Close Enough) to Home

I am from New Orleans, LA. Mississippi State is in Starkville, MS. That is a five-and-a-half-hour drive from home to school. For me, that is far enough to be on my own and be my own person, but close enough that I can drive home for breaks and such.

11. Feels Like Home

The moment I stepped foot on that campus, I knew it was going to be my new home.
