10 Reasons Why Lee’s Summit Is The Perfect Location For Families

Lee’s Summit is a highly rated and rapidly growing community in the midwest. This city offers a variety of activities, experiences, and entertainment options for growing families! We’ve compiled a list of the top ten reasons why your family should establish roots in Lee’s Summit.

1. Growing Community

Lee’s Summit is a vibrant city that is continually expanding! Since the subdivisions are constantly expanding, many young families are moving here to find homes that suit their lifestyles. Most of the neighborhoods in Lee’s Summit have pools and parks which are the perfect place to meet your neighbors! New apartment buildings and suburbs are close to many shopping, dining, and entertainment options. This makes it an ideal place for families so that they can enjoy the things the city has to offer without going far from home!

2. Beautiful Parks

Kansas City is known as the City of Fountains, and the suburb of Lee’s Summit is no exception to this title! Whether you are looking for a water park or a playground, this city has an option for you! On a hot summer day, head to Summit Waves, which is like a mini replica of Oceans of Fun! This water park is family-friendly, complete with a lazy river, diving boards, and various slides.

On crisp fall afternoons, plan a visit to Lea McKeighan Park. With a spacious playground, shaded grass, and sheltered picnic tables, this park is the ideal place for young families! During the winter, you can head across the street to Summit Ice, where you can glide around the ice skating rink. Whether you are looking for relief from the sun or memorable winter activities, Lee’s Summit has a park for you!

3. Recreational Outlets

If your family enjoys being active, they will find a plethora of recreational outlets in Lee’s Summit. From gyms to sports fields, you will find a wide variety of local sports to participate in! If you enjoy working out, consider getting a membership to a community center, where your family can swim, lift weights, or play sports! There are also biking and hiking trails that are located in and around neighborhoods like the Winterset subdivisions. For youth sports, explore the wide variety of sports that are offered through Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation!

4. Educational Museums

Whether you are looking for historical museums or art museums, Lee’s Summit has an option for you! The Lee’s Summit History Museum is located in Downtown Lee’s Summit. During your tour, you will learn the full history of Lee’s Summit both past and present. The gift shop inside the museum sells gifts that are unique to the Lee’s Summit area, which makes it the perfect place to find a gift for the history enthusiast in your family!

Although the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art is not located in Lee’s Summit, it is very close! The Nelson-Atkins is home to a variety of historical artifacts from various continents and cultures. If your family enjoys art history, consider planning a visit to this fascinating museum!

5. Diverse Restaurants

Lee’s Summit is home to a wide variety of cuisines. From Italian dishes to American classics, there is a restaurant option for even the pickiest eater in your family! Here is a list of some of my favorite restaurants in the Lee’s Summit area:

Third Street Social: Located in downtown Lee’s Summit, Third Street Social has a wide menu featuring classic American dishes. Their burgers are phenomenal, but I would also recommend trying their Shrimp and Grits, Crispy Fried Brussels & Cauliflower, and Meatloaf.

Sabor Latino Restaurant: Also located in downtown Lee’s Summit, Sabor serves authentic Latin American dishes. Their food is always fresh and mouthwatering! I recommend trying their Chimichangas or Chuleta Ahumada. Some of the menu options are hard to pronounce, so don’t be afraid to ask your server for recommendations!

Habanero’s Mexican Restaurant: Habanero’s serves authentic Mexican and Southwestern cuisine that will appeal to the whole family. As a fair warning, their salsa and chips are extremely addictive. Try not to fill up on them before your meal! I recommend trying their Taco Salad, Flying Tacos, or Pork Burrito. This is definitely not the restaurant to visit for a fancy dinner, but they have some of the best Mexican fast food in my opinion.

Spin Pizza: If you enjoy pizza and salad, then Spin is the restaurant for you! They have a wide variety of pizza toppings and crust options that accommodate guests with diet restrictions. I recommend trying their Very Berry Salad with the Chicken and Goat Cheese pizza.

6. Friendly Residents

Lee’s Summit residents are some of the friendliest people you will ever meet! Some people tend to keep to themselves, but most suburb residents are eager to meet their neighbors! If you move to a neighborhood that has monthly events, make sure you attend those events with your family! The people who organize group activities do it with new residents in mind, so take advantage of those opportunities!

7. Various Living Options

When most people picture the midwest, they see acres of fields and rundown farmhouses. They might be surprised to know that there is more to Lee’s Summit than that! Whether you are looking for a neighborhood community, apartment complex, or farmland, Lee’s Summit has an option for your family! I would recommend contacting a real estate agent to show you properties that fit your criteria. You can also use apps like Zillow or Reece & Nichols to search for the perfect location for your family!

8. Good Schools

The Lee’s Summit school district covers multiple counties within the Kansas City area. You will find several education options in these schools, from private classical schools to standard public schools. The teachers in the schools have a heart for their community and a passion for educating kids. Lee’s Summit schools also have a great connection with Longview Community College, where students can enter the A+ program and get two years of college free! You can easily transfer your college credit to a university if you decide to pursue higher education.

9. Centrally Located

Since Lee’s Summit is located close to the Missouri-Kansas border, you can easily travel between the states! This makes your daily commute to work, school, and activities more convenient. The city is also home to a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options that are easily accessible! If you live in the suburban area of Lee’s Summit, you will be just a short drive away from many of your favorite restaurants and stores.

10. Community Events

If you enjoy socializing, then Lee’s Summit is definitely the place for you! Lee’s Summit hosts a variety of annual events and holiday celebrations. During the summer, head to Downtown Lee’s Summit for Downtown Days, which is a family-friendly festival! Or visit the farmers’ market on Wednesdays and Saturdays from April to November. You won’t want to miss Christmas in the Park, which opens the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and runs until December 31st. This drive-thru experience is the perfect way to make memories during the Christmas season! Whether you are looking for family-friendly events or a night out with your girlfriends, Lee’s Summit has an event for you!
