What To Wear For Sorority Recruitment

Sorority recruitment typically has three official rounds, but it really depends on your campus and how they structure theirs. For most universities, it is prerecruitment events, three rounds of actual sorority recruitment, and then bid day. What you should wear for each of these also varies by campus, but generally, it is either casual, business casual, and professional.

Pre-Recruitment Events

If you’re going through sorority recruitment you are going to have to attend pre-recruitment events. Whether this is just a tabling situation or an actual orientation, this is your first glimpse into sorority life and the first time you will meet potential sisters. For this round, you will want to be presentable but casual. Try to stay away from super ripped jeans and low cut tops. This is your first opportunity to really present yourself so make sure you stay true to your style. This classic black tee and gingham pants combination is perfect for these events, as is a simple pair of jeans and a graphic tee. You can really wear anything for this round of sorority recruitment as long as you are presentable.

Philanthropy Round

Philanthropy round, or the first real round of sorority recruitment, is when you will visit all of the chapters. Again, you will want yourself to look presentable. This round would be considered casual and you can still technically wear jeans, but most women stay with a stylish pant. You will also want to make sure whatever you wear is really comfortable because you will most likely be standing the entire time. This is your first official meeting with the active sisters of the chapter so you will want to lean towards dressing to impress, make sure you stay true to yourself because they will be able to tell if you are uncomfortable in what you are wearing.

House Tours

The second round eliminates jeans but is still fairly casual. Most women will wear either sundresses or flowy dresses but it is not a requirement. For this round of sorority recruitment, you will be visiting the houses that you were invited back to. By now, the women know who you are and how you typically will dress, so pick an outfit that really represents you. A turtleneck and corduroy dress will showcase your style and show that you’re super into trends. This outfit is classy and cute; casual enough to work for this round but still appropriate. A short wrap dress is another great option for the second round. It’s simple and easy to throw on and look flattering on everyone.

Preference Round

Preference round, or the third and final round, is the most dressy round. You will want to pull out your dresses or jumpsuits for this one. We are not talking prom or homecoming outfits, but something you’d wear to church on Sunday if that applies to you. This outfit should be classy and sophisticated while still showcasing your style. A green wrap dress is perfectly classy and cute. This navy jumpsuit would also work really well for this round. While you will be walking around a bit, you’ll want to pull out at least a small heel for this round.

Bid Day!

Bid day is the best day, and you’ll want to wear something that is breathable, allows movement, and is easy to change out of or layer with. Once you run home you will receive a shirt and that shirt will pertain to a theme. Your best option is to wear either jeans or jean shorts depending on the weather because they are the most versatile. You can throw a bodysuit on for easy layering or a sweatshirt on top of a cami for quick changing. Whatever you wear, make sure you aren’t opposed to getting it a little dirty because you will be welcomed with glitter, games, and food after arriving home.
