What To Do Around Kent State When You’re Broke AF

As broke college students, you may have little to no money to spend on leisure activities as much as you may want to. However, this does not mean you cannot have fun and enjoy your time with few expenses. KSU has plenty of free activities to do on a low budget. Here are some fun things to do around Kent State University if you’re bored and broke.

1. Explore the Kent State Fashion Museum

A few of the best things to do is to explore what campus has to offer because it will most likely be free. The Fashion Museum is free to all Kent State students with their Flash ID. Exhibits are constantly changing, so there is always something new even if you have already been there once before. There are eight galleries that showcase everything from fashion and costumes to textiles and furniture pieces.

2. Check out the May 4th Exhibition

It is located right at the center of campus in Taylor Hall. Many students never take the opportunity to refresh and learn more about what happened on their university campus after their freshman year. The exhibition is educational, but also something all students can connect with.

3. FlashPerks Events

There are various events ranging from sports games and late night skates to photoshop classes and sessions that help teach you how to manage your money (wouldn’t hurt to attend one of those if you’re broke). These campus events help you rack up points to potentially win some cool prizes or even free tuition for a semester.

4. Hike at Metro Parks

If you want to get off campus and have a great time with little to no expenses, that is certainly possible. The Gorge Metro Park in Cuyahoga Falls is a great escape from campus life. There are hiking trails, picnic areas, and waterfalls to enjoy.

5. Go Biking

Don’t go alone. Get a friend and appreciate the great weather while it lasts. There are plenty of bike trails in Kent and nearby cities. Grab your bike or rent one from on campus and get that exercise in or just take delight in the wind blowing through your hair.

6. Take a Stroll Downtown

Kent has some of the cutest little cafes and boutiques. If you have a few bucks to spare, grab a coffee and chat the day away with a few friends. If the goal is save up, it doesn’t hurt to go inside a trendy boutique and look around without purchasing anything. You may find inspiration or want to create your own DIY projects after checking out some shops.
