10 Ways To Wear A Jean Jacket

At one point, jean jackets were totally an ’80s thing. But as we know from most fashions, everything comes back into style at least once. While there are many trends I’m obsessed with that came back in style, I will have to admit that jean jackets are by far one of my favorites.

Jean jackets are so versatile, there are literally hundreds of ways you can wear them. It’s cool to have multiple jean jackets, but even with one, you can wear it any style or any way. Although they are not ideal for the summer, there are still ways you can make it work. Here are 10 ways you can wear a jean jacket (even if you only have just one)!

1. With Jeans

I know I know, the jean on jean look makes people skeptical. But trust me–a jean jacket with any pair of jeans and a plain top looks so cute. If you have a light wash jean jacket, pair it with light wash jeans or black–try and at least match the denim if you’re doing denim on denim.

2. With Jean Shorts

Again, denim on denim is in! Jean shorts with a jean jacket is the perfect wow factor, and it gives you room to experiment what kind of shorts you want to wear, while still wearing your jean jacket. The same rule applies for this–try and match your shorts to whatever color your jacket is (unless it’s black of course).

3. With a Dress

Wearing a jean jacket with a dress gives you a lot of flexibility to make it preppy or casual. It really depends on your style, and where you’re wearing it to. It also can depend on the style of the jean jacket. For example, if you have more of a “trucker style” jean jacket, you might want to wear it with something more casual vs. if you had a more fitted and slim jean jacket. Regardless, still so cute!

4. With Yoga Pants

This is my favorite look, and typically is what I wear my jean jacket with all the time. It’s perfect for class, coffee runs, grocery shopping, hanging out with friends, and more. You also have so much flexibility with what you can wear under it–a t-shirt works, a tank top, a long sleeve shirt, anything you want!

5. With Bike Shorts

If bike shorts are your thing or you’ve been wanting to try them, now is the time! Jean jackets look super cute with bike shorts and a cute cropped top.

6. With Sweats/Joggers

I know it sounds odd, but this is another one of my go-to looks. If you have a pair of joggers (typically ones that look a little nicer), this look is perfect. When you pair a jean jacket with for example black velvet joggers, it’s so cute! It’s the perfect example of ‘shabby chic’, meaning it looks like you’re not trying, but you’re trying a little bit.

7. With a Jean Skirt

Same rule as the jean on jean! Try and match the types of denim, but it’s not the end of the world if you can’t. This look is super cute for spring or fall!

8. Over a Sweatshirt

Wearing a big oversized sweatshirt with a trucker style jean jacket will always be the perfect look for fall. Again, looks like you’re trying but not too hard!

9. With Another Jacket

I’ve seen a lot of celebrities do this when it gets colder out. Pairing your jean jacket with another jacket underneath or even over it is super in. It’s best to pair it with not as bulky of a jacket, but regardless still so cute!
