8 Updo Hairstyles For Rainy Days You Have To Try

When it starts getting colder, you have to be prepared for terrible weather. Lots of rain and lots and sadly, lots of rain. It’s a bugger to even consider what to do hair wise when the rain outside is horrendous, so to help you out here are 8 updo hairstyles for rainy days, so you can worry less about your hair and more about finding your umbrella.

1. Low Chignon

A low chignon is the perfect updo hairstyles for rainy days because it can hide under a hood or look very classic under an umbrella. The French really hit the nail on the head with this updo hairstyle because with it all wrapped up, there’s no chance of rain even getting to it. Simple wrap the hair into a small bun at the top of your neck and there you have it! A lovely, simple hairstyle unaffected by the rain.

2. Half Up Half Down Bun

It’s quick, simple and always looks best on second day hair, so if a little rain gets to it then it doesn’t matter too much. With beachy waves on the half down and the half up pulled into a messy bun, it’s the simplest of all hairstyle that will look super chic all day long. It doesn’t matter if your hood messes it up slightly, because it just gives the updo a slightly more undone look. These updo hairstyles should be effortless, so try doing it five minutes before you have to leave.

3. Boxer Braids

Coined by Kim K, boxer braids are a great updo hairstyle for rainy days. Because they are tightly plaited, a little bit of rain will just enhance a bit of shine. In fact, using some gel whilst braiding will keep everything intact and if you get caught in a downpour then it really won’t matter. Wear the style to uni, to shopping, to your local coffee shop or the gym, it’s a versatile updo made for rainy days.

4. Sleek Low Ponytail

A low ponytail, much like a chignon is one of the great updo hairstyles for the rain because it can easily hide underneath a hood or an umbrella and be untouched by drizzle or heavy rain. It looks much sleeker and more sophisticated, if it’s pulled back into a very low style with fly aways tamed and added shine at the roots. Try using a circle barrette clip to add some prettiness or just use a simple pop band to keep things chic.

5. Banana Bun

This updo hairstyle cropped up last year during Fashion Week. It’s similar to a messy low bun, but the way it’s pinned gives a shape similar to a banana (hence the name). A couple of tutorials might be needed to recreate this look, so don’t go thinking it’ll be an easy five minute style to once done, this look is sure to beat the woes of the rain while keeping your hair in one place. A banana bun looks effortless and stylist and is perfect for those rainy days.

6. French Twist

You have to thank the French for coming up with the perfect updo for rainy days. A French Twist is a quick hairstyle for when you’re in a rush and it’s peeing it down outside because it looks gorgeous whether neat or messy. Simply twist the hair around your fingers and pin in it up in place. Easily protected from all weathers under hood or brolly and a beautifully, sophisticated updo hairstyle, this one should be a got to hairstyle for rainy days.

7. Loose Plait

Hairstyles that are nice and loose are always lovely for rainy days. Minimal effort updos are a must because when the weather is rubbish, sometimes you just don’t want to put in time (or effort). A plait is great for this kind of situation because they look good on all hair lengths and the loose hair that is left out of the updo makes the whole look very pretty with literally no effort involved. The updo is perfect for lazy days when you don’t want to leave the house.

8. Milkmaid Braids

You won’t always need a updo hairstyle for day to day tasks, because unfortunately, it does rain on nights out or date nights. Milkmaid braids can look really pretty and undone or they can look lovely and polished. Although they’re not suited for all hair lengths, milkmaid braids are brilliant for withstanding rain. A lovely updo for nights out, but again can just be worn day to day, milkmaid braids are the perfect hairstyle for rain.
