What Makes S/S 2019 Fashion So Timeless

The best thing about summer 2019 fashion is that anything goes.

The move away from environmentally-damaging fast fashion in favour of more sustainable wardrobe means how we shop and what we wear is becoming more timeless and less trend led. This is not only super refreshing, but also allows for more creativity and self-expression in terms of what personal style is.

I love Instagram and Pinterest as a source of inspiration for what I wear, and there’s definitely a pattern for influencers and Instagram models to re-wear and re-style old pieces to guide followers like me away from the throwaway culture that has dominated the fashion industry.

Here’s a compilation of my most-liked and most-pinned summer 2019 looks that I’ll definitely be copying year after year.

Off-white denim

I’m such a sucker for a good pair of jeans. I have every shade of mid-wash blue you could think of. Whilst I have tried and treasured every shape that exists, a high-waisted straight leg (preferably with a raw-edge hem) will always occupy a special place in my heart.

My denim addiction has not been curtailed this summer, and my 2019 fashion Pinterest board is generally a wall of white, off-white, ecru, cream and beige jeans. I never thought I could be converted, but there is just something about the combination of a white-wash and a golden summer glow that I can’t get enough of.

The pair I currently have in my basket are these £40 Weekday jeans, which earn extra points from me for being made from organic cotton.

Square-toe strappy sandals

One of my lesser goals in life is to be the type of person that wears heels – albeit short ones – in my everyday life.

The sort of sandals that are all over the summer 2019 fashion edits are the strappy, sleek, square-toed kind, and I couldn’t be more for it. When packing light, I would take these and a pair of chunky dad-style trainers to cover you for all outfits. Switching out the trainers for these vegan leather sandals from Topshop would instantly make your outfit more polished and refined, even if it was just a pair of jeans and a well-fitted t-shirt.

Ruched milkmaid blouses

These style of tops are so flattering on any bust; the ruched sweetheart neckline emphasises a smaller chest, whilst the puffy sleeves offer a counter-balance for a bigger one. These blouses are all over all over the Instagrams of summer 2019 fashion bloggers, and for good reason.

Best made from breathable cotton or linen, these tops will serve you well in hot climes, as well as looking cute with a chunky cardigan come colder weather at home. The prairie look is one that comes around year-on-year, whether in the form of frilled floral dresses, button-down maxi skirts or vintage-style blouses; this patterned one would make a welcome addition to a capsule wardrobe.

Vintage gold jewellery

Summer 2019 fashion suggests we are living in the age of the sun, with gold clearly taking precedence over silver tones. The best thing about the accessorising department of 2019 fashion is that it favours the bold and the old (go for #sustainability), and wearing your whole collection all at once – if that wasn’t an excuse to raid your grandma’s jewellery box or go crazy at a vintage shop then I don’t know what is!

Knitwear isn’t just for layering

A final ~lewk~ I’m loving in Summer 2019 fashion is wearing fine knitwear on their own. Unfortunately, my boobs are too obnoxiously large to pull this style off, but that’s not to say I can’t appreciate the aesthetic of it (heart-eyes emoji).

The best knitwear for this kind of styling is the vintage sort, so this is the very definition of timeless. If you can’t find what you’re looking for in a charity shop or a vintage shop, Asos have a pretty sweet alternative.
