How To Cope With Anxiety Around The Holidays

If you’re struggling to cope with anxiety around the holidays, read our quick guide on how to deal with it better. The colder months can be more difficult to get motivated or it can become depressing when the nights draw in.

Christmas Crafts

If you need to take your mind off of your anxiety or panic attacks, participating in seasonal crafts may help destress. You could help put up the tree or order Christmas presents. If you want to take your mind off the anxiety, why not create all your own wrapping paper and cards.

Declutter

Decluttering can really help boost your mood and since it’s the holidays, they’ll be more presents to carry up to your room on Boxing Day. You’ll need room for all your new presents and what better way to destress than to have a clear out. You can also take your mind off things for a while which is a real bonus.

Doodle

If you struggle to stay calm during the holidays and need to fiddle with something, why not buy yourself an adult colouring book? It’s perfect for calming yourself down during anxious periods.

Meditation

If decluttering and cleaning won’t take your mind off things, maybe you could try listening to meditation CDs or relaxing playlists. Meditation isn’t for everyone but it can help you feel a lot calmer and more at peace the more you practice it. If you don’t enjoy meditating yoga may be a better option for coping with anxiety and calming the mind.

Set New Goals

Since it’s almost New Years, why not set yourself some targets for the following year? These could be anxiety related; say for instance you had trouble going to the city alone, that could be one of your goals for the year. Whatever the situation, remember you will always get through it. It can seem like the end of the world but I promise it’s not. You’ll come out the other side a much stronger person.

Self Care

Make sure you practice self care around the holidays, whether it’s taking a bath or buying a new magazine or even a coffee; we all need to treat ourselves with the kindness we give others. We shouldn’t punish ourselves for our mental illnesses. Make sure you practice self care this winter.
