10 Dorm Organization Tips That You Need To Know

Organising your dorm can be tricky. Need ideas on how to organise your dorm room at university? Here are 10 dorm organisation tips.

Living at a university accommodation and organising your dorm can be very exciting. You have your own room and you can organise it however you want to. Here are 10 ways you can organise your dorm room.

1. Use storage boxes for different university modules/topics

Storage boxes/shelves are a great way to help organise your university work in your room. You can purchase different shelves/boxes for the different modules/topics you will be covering on your course. You can even colour coordinate the shelves so you can find your work easier and quicker.

2. Organise your clothes in categories

Dorm organisation just got fun! Organising clothes in your dorm will make your life so much easier. You can organise your clothes in your wardrobe and draws by colour or by outfit type. Colour coordinating your outfits is good if you base your outfits on the weather (bright coloured clothes when it’s sunny and dark coloured clothes when it’s cloudy). I like to organise my clothes based on outfit type. For example: put all your hoodies together, your party dresses together, your t-shirts together, formal wear together, your jeans together, etc. It makes planning your daytime outfits a lot easier.

3. Have a dirty laundry basket and a clean laundry basket

Having a dirty laundry basket in your dorm room is very handy. It makes organising your dorm a lot easier. You have a place to store all of your dirty clothes instead of having your clothes pile up on the floor. As well as having a dirty laundry basket, having a basket for your clean clothes will also help with organising your dorm. It is a place where you can put all of your clean clothes until you are ready to store them away.

4. Standing clothes rack for outfits for the next day

For all visual people, having a standing clothes rack is a great place to place your outfit you want to wear tomorrow. Organising your dorm with a clothes rack is a great idea because you won’t have to throw your clothes that you want to wear tomorrow onto your bed, causing your room to look untidy.

5. Use a door hanger in your dorm

Using a door hanger as a place to hang things up in your room will make your room look a lot tidier. You can hang your coats and hoodies up instead of them occupying space in your wardrobe.

6. Have a mini fridge (if permitted) in your room

Organising your dorm by using a mini fridge is great idea when you are planning to keep your food in your dorm room, instead of your flat kitchen. You can keep your drinks right next to your bed, so you don’t have to go to the kitchen just to get a drink.

7. Organise your chargers and wires

Not only is having your chargers and wires dropped all over your dorm room hazardous, but it makes your room look very untidy. Try organising your dorm by putting all your chargers and wires in a box when they are not in use.

8. Have a jewellery/trinket box on your desk

Try to organise your jewellery using a jewellery box instead of having your jewellery scattered all over your desk. Not only does it make your room look neater, you are less likely to lose your jewellery too.

9. Have a storage box in your room

If you don’t want to keep all of your pots and pans in the kitchen, you can try organising your dorm by putting them in a storage box. Some dorm rooms have storage under the beds, so you can put the storage box there if you don’t want it taking up floor space.

10. Have a clock and calendar in your room

Try not to be late for your lectures. Put a clock and a calendar in your room so that you are not late for lectures and meetings.
