10 Best Vegetarian Restaurants in Glasgow

A lot of thought gets put into vegetarian food, and most places have seasonally changing menus. This means that the produce used is always fresh and more environmentally friendly, as well as guaranteeing ever-changing menus – you definitely won't get bored with these vegetarian restaurants in Glasgow.

Glasgow is one of Britain’s best cities for vegetarians and vegans. Here, competition has definitely led to the restaurants upping their games in the plant-based food field. Not only do most restaurants offer multiple vegetarian or vegan options, but there’re lots of places which serve absolutely no meat or animal products – meaning you’re not limited to that one dry veggie bean burger that was added to the menu after someone realised that there were absolutely no non-meat options. A lot of thought gets put into the food, and most places have seasonally changing menus. This means that the produce used is always fresh and more environmentally friendly, as well as guaranteeing ever-changing menus – you definitely won’t get bored with these vegetarian restaurants in Glasgow.

1. Hanoi Bike Shop

Hanoi Bike Shop is one of my favourite restaurants in Glasgow. Nestled in Ruthven Lane just off of Byres Road, this Vietnamese place makes their own tofu (which is insanely good). Their menu changes seasonally, and always has plenty of vegetarian options for tapas-style sharing, as well as fantastic pho.

2. The 78

Located in trendy Finnieston, this pub/restaurant is completely vegan, all the way down to the lemons (which are unwaxed). Come here for a chill night of pub food (their burgers and vegan quesadillas are fab) and good music – they’ve got a weekly jazz night!

3. Banana Leaf

Not to be confused with the Malaysian by the same name, this South Indian restaurant on Old Dumbarton Road is one of the best Indians in Glasgow (as well as one of the best Indians I’ve ever been to). The vegetarian menu here is so vast you’re spoiled for choice!

4. Stereo

Stereo not only puts on one of the best club nights in Glasgow (Push It), but is also one of the best vegan restaurants in the city – they do a great vegetarian/vegan haggis! You can get smaller plates for sharing over a few drinks, and their seasonal specials are always fantastic. They somehow manage to do a vegan puff pastry which I’m still in awe at.

5. Mono

Mono puts on regular gigs, readings, workshops, performances, etc. as well as serving fabulous, experimental vegan food!

6. Saramago Café Bar

Located in the Centre for Contemporary Arts (CCA), this vegan restaurant is a perfect break from a day of gallery hopping, offering a slightly fancier (but still affordable) vegan menu, ranging from salads and sandwiches to gnocchi and risotto!

7. The 13th Note

Hands down one of the best vegetarian burgers (and chips) I’ve ever had. Like Mono, the 78, and Stereo, The 13th Note puts on regular gigs too, as well as serving everything from curries to burgers.

8. Ranjit’s Kitchen

You can never go wrong with Indian food (Ranjit’s specialises in Panjabi) or cheese, and Ranjit’s Kitchen in Southside serves five different paneer dishes, as well as being a completely vegetarian restaurant.

9. Kimchi Cult

This Korean streetfood restaurant just off of Byres Road serves three vegetarian (or vegan) bibimbap options, as well as providing a vegetarian kimchi – their vegetarian kimchi cheese fries are incredible. These vegetarian restaurants in Glasgow are delicious.

10. The Hug and Pint

Their Asian-inspired menu may not be massive, but it changes daily, and the little they do they do well (and vegan). Their portions are big and affordable, too!
