To The Father Who Thinks He Has Failed

I didn’t exactly have the typical family household growing up. My parents don’t live in the same place, much less the same country, and my siblings are twice my age and had already moved out by the time I was in middle school. Although I didn’t exactly have the typical family, I did have a lot of father figures in my life that guided me in the right direction. The two most important men in my life are my two older brothers. They took over the role of being my father and my backbone when I needed them the most. Here’s to the father who thinks he has failed.

My Brothers

When I was young my brother took me everywhere, I was always out and about running errands with him and his friends. It got to a point where we were inseparable; wherever he went, I was there along for the ride. I was the first one to always meet the girlfriends, I slept over at his house every time he moved up or down a floor, and boy was he overprotective. If I get started on about all the stories we’ve been through, we’d be here all week. He was my father in every way possible.

Being An Aunt

I became an aunt at a very young age, I was 8 years old when my niece, Karla, was born. While I never really knew how to be an aunt until my nephew was born 2 years ago, I learned how to be an older sister. We definitely had an insane amount of fights, disagreements, and troubles but we share an amazing bond. If it wasn’t for my brother, we wouldn’t have this relationship. My niece and nephew are my inspiration and motivation. I have learned how to be an aunt, sister, friend, and protector because of these little munchkins.

Ups And Downs

Don’t get me wrong, there have definitely been a lot of downs. There have been times when my brothers seemed like the worst people in the world. There were even times I wanted our relationships to be normal. Like everybody else’s brother-sister relationship. Looking back at everything, I am one of the luckiest girls in this world.

To All The Fathers Out There

They took the time to make sure I was being raised the right way and that I had more than enough love and support than a perfect father could give. To all those fathers that believe they aren’t the best or feel they have failed; love, support, and just being there for your child is the best way to show them you care. It isn’t about materialistic things, it’s about being there and creating an unbreakable bond.

To My Brothers

To my brothers, Quilvio and Carlos, thank you for being mean, patient, loving, and hard-headed with me. I am who I am today because of you. You have been the best father figures I could ever have asked for. And thank you for my best gifts ever, Karla and Lyam.
