There is no doubt that COVID-19 has changed our lives and routines. We are all getting used to the new normal. It has also changed our job search. Searching remotely for a job can get tough. If you are looking for a job, here are 15 tips for job search remotely!

1. LinkedIn

LinkedIn is basically like a professional Facebook where you can network and connect with employers and job recruiters. When filling out your LinkedIn profile, make sure to include every little detail that makes you shine! Include your skills, work experience, and other activities you are in, such as greek life, other organizations, and volunteering experience. Also, make sure to include a professional-looking picture of you!

2. Indeed

Indeed is another social network for job seekers. However, Indeed is not similar to Facebook. It lets you upload your resume and cover letter. You can search for jobs by filtering location and job titles. 

3. ZipRecruiter

ZipRecruiter is another employment marketplace, much like Indeed. It lets you look for a job by filtering company sizes, locations, and job titles. 

4. Personal social media

Don’t be afraid to post on your personal social media such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc. that you are looking for a job! By being active on your personal social media, you can attract job recruiters. Follow the companies and businesses that you are interested in, and don’t be afraid to leave comments and feedback under their posts. Also, post about your accomplishments to attract the attention of seeking employers. Remember to keep your social media clean since that is one of the things that the employers look at during their hiring process. 

5. Research the field you are interested in

Make sure that you know what kind of job you are looking for and what kind of field it is. Are you looking for a summer gig to gain more experience and network with people? Or are you looking for your first serious position? Research the field you are interested in and what your responsibilities would be. However, don’t stop jus there. Research people who work in the same area and follow them on social media! That way, you will keep learning about the field and ideas on how you can succeed. 

6. Talk to your family/friends

Let your friends and family know that you are looking for a job! You never know how they can help you. Maybe your relative or your friend’s parent will be able to help you out. 

7. Don’t stop updating your resume

Even if your resume is up to date with your work experience, don’t stop working on it. Keep improving it by adding new skills that you are learning. Don’t be afraid to experiment with the formatting as well. Find what looks right and most like you. Your resume is the first thing that the employer looks at, so make sure it is the best it can be! 

8. Don’t be afraid to ask for help

Don’t be afraid to ask your parent, friend, or professor, to look at your resume or cover letter. The more feedback you can get, the better! It is absolutely normal to not know what you are doing!

9. Find a mentor

A mentor is a person who you look up to and trust who you can come for advice. A mentor helps you grow by guiding and supporting you. Figure out who that person is for you. Is it a friend’s older sibling? Your high school teacher? Frankly, anybody can be your mentor. Meet/call this person once a week and talk about your progress and your struggles. This will help you learn from their experiences, which will put you ahead. 

10. Follow inspiring people on social media

Fill your social media feed with the people who inspire and motivate you. At times social media can get negative and exhausting, which is why it is so important to fill it with positivity. Remember, social media is what you make of it-you are in control! You can learn from these influential people who can improve your skills and make you a better employee. 

11. Stay open-minded

While it is essential to stay focused and determined, it is also important to keep an open mind. When job searching sometimes, we find other positions and different fields that surprisingly end up being a valuable experience. Get out of your comfort zone and check out jobs that aren’t in the area you are looking for.

There are tons of resources that help people who are job searching. Research and find webinars that can help you with your resume and improve your interview skills. 

13. Read books/blogs

Besides watching or attending webinars, also try to read books and blogs that can help you with your job search. It is crucial that you keep educating and improving yourself. Your future employer is going to appreciate your drive, and your motivation can make you stand out from other candidates. 

14. Keep working on your skills

Keep working and improving your skills. Whether it is learning about nuances in technology, improving your writing skills, or customer skills, make sure to keep on improving and learning. Besides educating yourself, you can also look for volunteer or internship opportunities, which can give you more experience.

15. Apply with confidence

I am a huge believer that we attract the energy we give. Therefore you must stay positive and confident when applying for jobs. Remember how special you are! Be confident that you have what it takes to be the perfect candidate for the job you are applying to.
