What is worth than having prickly hair all over your legs? If you hate having hairy legs, check out these tips for smooth legs you'll absolutely love!

Now that it’s FINALLY summer, here are some great tips to get the smoothest legs ever. Shaving can be such a hassle, but if smooth legs are the goal, then these are the tips for smooth legs you need!

1. Exfoliate before and after

Exfoliating before you shave will get all the dead skin off your legs. Any little rough patches or bumps will be smoothed over, giving you a better shave. You should also lightly exfoliate after shaving as well to polish away any skin that may have gotten loosened up from your razor. This sugar scrub by Tree Hut smells and works amazing!

2. Shave with the hair and then against

Shaving in the direction the hair grows is actually a good idea. This initial shave will get most of the hair on the surface. The second shave against the grain of the hair will get any spots you may have missed and ensure your legs are smooth no matter which way you rub them.

3. Change the blade regularly

This one seems obvious, but it’s something I think we all forget about. Changing out your razor or the blades consistently obviously makes shaving easier and gives you better results. A brand new, sharp blade will cut the hairs closer to the skin and leave your legs feeling extra smooth.

4. Use conditioner

Many people just use regular soap while shaving instead of spending even more money on shaving cream. Though this might save you a little money, it really doesn’t give you the best shave possible. If you’re not looking to spend the money on a shaving cream, use your conditioner! Talking from experience, it’s just as good. It’s meant to moisturize your hair, so why not your legs to? It’s better than just soap because that lather only stays so long and after it’s basically just water which can easily lead to cuts or razor burn. If you are looking to for a good shaving cream, use a gel or one that will give you a little added moisture. EOS makes a product that’s almost like a shaving lotion.

5. MEN’S RAZORS…that is all

Again, I think this is another obvious point, but definitely one worth mentioning. Men’s razors are not only cheaper, but they’re made for the face so they’re really gentle. The blades are sharper but also gentle so they don’t cut the users face or in this case, legs. Not only will you get an even smoother outcome, but you’ll also save some money, which is a nice plus. This is one of the best tips for smooth legs!

6. Don’t shave your leg in one long stroke

If you’ve ever gotten a tattoo, you’ve definitely seen the artists shave the area you’re getting the tattoo on. They do this in a very specific way to get the are as smooth as possible. Shaving over one are with small strokes will give you exactly the results you’re looking for. Shaving in one big stroke will cause the razor to get a little clogged and skip over patches of hair. The small strokes will save you from missing anything and keep you smooth during the summer.

7. Try shaving alternatives

If shaving is too much for you, and honestly I wouldn’t blame you at all, you can always try waxing or other alternatives like Nair. Waxing is such a easy fix for any unwanted hair. Once you’ve waxed one time, the hair will take much longer to grow back as it’s been pulled it from the root and not just shaved off the top. This will also leave your legs, or wherever you get waxed, much smoother.

8. Moisturize

Moisturizing is key. This should be done about a minute after showering and drying off to be most effective. Use a thick lotion or body butter for the best results. Some people even recommend just plain coconut oil! The Body Shop has amazing body butters that are full of oils and vitamins that will keep your skin moisturized for up to 24 hours. This is one of the most important tips for smooth legs!

9. Use in shower lotions for even more moisture

Or if you just forget to do it when you get out. Making in shower moisturizing part of your routine is a great way too add some extra moisture to your skin or if you’re just forgetful at least you’ve already done it!

10. Shave at the end of your shower/ bath

Shaving right before you get out of the shower or bath will give the warm water time to open your pores and soften the hair follicles. This will make the hair easier to shave and will help you get a closer shave.
