Your time at Indiana University will go by in a flash if you aren’t careful. There is so many things to do in Bloomington that it may be hard to narrow down the must see’s and do’s of the lively college town and its borders. To make it easier on you, here are the 10 things you have to do before you graduate from Indiana University.
1. Attend Breakfast Club
After you wipe the sleep from your eyes just to wait in line that wraps around Kilroy’s on Kirkwood at 5 AM be prepared to get the party going at breakfast club. A $5 cover will get you into the bar, supply a buffet style breakfast, and get you a T shirt. No tailgate is complete without attending breakfast club early Saturday morning.
2. Go To A Basketball Game
IU is best known for its basketball program. Assembly stadium is always filled with die hard Hoosier fans. Put on your best IU spirit wear and go out for a game while you are still a student at Indiana University.
3. Play Sink The Biz At Nick’s
A game that will have everyone interested and laughing… and well… drinking. Sink The Biz, which originated at Nick’s English Hut on Kirkwood is the perfect pregame or laid back Friday night game to play with all of your friends. You can even buy the famous Nick’s bucket and biz cup to keep after you graduate.
4. Jump in Walter Fountain
Located in the center and heart of IU’s massive campus, it is common for students to take a dip in the Showalter Fountain and document the affair. The fountain is one of the most well-known landmarks on campus.
5. See A Little 500 Race
Although this weekend is known as the biggest college party weekend in America, don’t skip out on the race every year. Actually going to the track and experiencing the action in person is a MUST before you graduate from Indiana University.
6. See A Concert At Bluebird
The Bluebird may be a small and overlooked hangout spot, but it is definitely worth checking out on a Wednesday night for 25 cent beers or for a weekend concert. Bands from all around the country travel and perform here and the tickets go for pretty cheap. Rod Tuffcurls and The Bench Press are legendary at Indiana University and usually always play at The Bluebird on busy weekends.
7. Close Down Sports
The Saturday night of graduation, Kilroy’s Sport’s Bar stays open later than usual for any seniors in attendance. Dance and sing along to epic sing a long’s all night long. In contrary to the normal 3:30 AM close time, Sport’s will usually stay open until around 5 or 6 in the morning on this special night.
8. Sing Karaoke At Bear’s
A Thursday night karaoke session at Bear’s will be nothing short of memorable during your time at IU. You also HAVE to try a “Harry Bear” drink. These drinks are legendary at Indiana University, but be careful… they are extremely strong. Just one will do the trick.
9. Take A Campus Stroll In The Fall
The foliage that blankets Indiana University in the fall is nothing short of breathtaking. With many vastly stretching forest areas on campus, there will be beautiful fall foliage everywhere you turn to look on campus in the fall. The best spot to stroll is located just through the Sample Gates on front of Franklin Hall.
10. Go Quarry Jumping
The rooftop quarry in southern Monroe County is a short drive away from the college town. Most of all of Indiana University’s buildings are made out of limestone extracted from the quarry area. Known as an iconic swimming hole back in the day, it is now strictly forbidden to go cliff jumping at the rooftop quarry. However, that doesn’t stop most Hoosiers. Just don’t get caught!
