12 Things To Do On Father’s Day When You’re Out Of Ideas

Father’s Day is a day to celebrate the dads and father figures in our lives. Year after year, it can feel like you do the same things to celebrate the dads in the family. Looking to change things up this year? Treat him to one our ideas for things to do on Father’s Day.

1. Compete in a round of mini golf

Your dad may be good on a golf course, so test his skills on a smaller scale. Have a fun wager at stake, such as loser cooks dinner or buys ice cream. Mini golf is a fun family outing, but it can be equally as fun with just two people if you want one-on-one time with Dad.

2. Head over to the new brewery in town

Most dads love beer, and there is nothing better than supporting a local business. If a new brewery has opened in your neighborhood or town, be the designated driver and treat your dad to a cold one (or two).

3. Try to get out of an escape room

Escape rooms are a fun way to test your logic and puzzle skills. If you have never done one before, here’s the concept: you get locked in a themed room with clues on how to find the key or passcode (or series of keys) to escape. Typically, participants only have an hour to attempt to escape. See if your family can break the room’s record!

4. Go for a hike

Heading outdoors is a great way to connect with your dad. Going for a nice hike or even just a walk around the block gives you time to talk one-on-one and catch up. One of the best things to do on Father’s Day is actually getting to know your dad more. This is especially important if you do not see or talk to each other every day.

5. Have a picnic in the park

Get your family together and go to a local park for a picnic. Pack sandwiches, snacks, drinks and desserts and bring your favorite outdoor game to play. Some parks even have grills, so check out the rules for using them!

6.  See that new movie he has been hinting about wanting to see

Is there a movie out that your dad keeps saying he wants to see every time a commercial is on? Take him to see it, even if it is not quite your style. This will give you something to talk about over Father’s Day dinner.

7. Check out a historic site

If you have lived near a historic spot such as Washington D.C. or Valley Forge, it is easy to overlook the significance these places have had on history. Take a trip with dad to one of these spots to learn something new that may be in your own backyard.

8. Attend a car show in your area

Does your dad constantly comment on the cool cars he sees on the road? Is he into the trivia of old models and can he name the makes and models of every car at first glance? Look for a local car show over Father’s Day weekend to satisfy his dreams of being up close and personal with cool cars.

9. Embrace the outdoors by going camping

If you’ve been thinking for a long time on what to do on Father’s Day, good for you! By planning ahead a little, you can reserve some space at a campsite. Camping is a great way to disconnect from the distractions of the world and to get away with family members. Plan out a fun Father’s Day weekend at a favorite campsite, or venture to a new site that you have never been to before.

10. Take him out to a (base)ball game

Baseball games, whether it is a minor league or major league game, are a fun way to spend time with family. Even non-sports fans can appreciate the atmosphere and the food of the ballpark. Take your dad to see his favorite team and cheer them to victory. This can easily become a special family tradition, as it’s one of the classic things to do on Father’s Day.

11. Go out for ice cream

Father’s Day falls in the lazy hazy days of June. It is the perfect time to beat the heat and go to your favorite local ice cream shop for a refreshing treat for the whole family to enjoy. Treat your dad to his favorite ice cream flavor.

12. Spend the day at the beach

Many families love spending time together at the beach. If your dad is a beach fan, take him to his favorite beach destination on a day trip. Spend time in the water and on the boardwalk. Treat him to his favorite beach activities and food.
