The Guy I Thought I Was Dating Ghosted Me And Here’s What Happened

I once was ghosted by a guy I thought I was dating. Undoubtedly, I had no clue that our relationship was never a relationship to begin with. Awkward. Ultimately, the guy I thought I was dating ghosted me and here’s what happened.

1. How We Met

On a random Thursday night, some friends and I went to the local bar. I met a guy, we hit it off immediately and so, we exchanged phone numbers. He took the liberty of offering to buy me a drink. Out of curiosity I accepted his offer.

He was funny, cute, and a GOT fan, I was sold. I was sure this meeting might blossom into something much more.

2. Our Growing Relationship

The following days were quite pleasant. We texted each other throughout the day, nothing too serious though. After our first initial meeting we met for breakfast the next day. We shared our aspirations, and hopes for the future.

Again, I was sold. I wasn’t looking for a long-term relationship, but I was open to it. Our messages eventually became more flirtatious, and intimate. At this point, I never expected that he could’ve ghosted me.

3. Radio-silence

One night I was craving affection, and decided to send a quick, “hey, want to come over.” I’m not sure what happened, but I never received a response. Triple-checking my phone to make sure it went through I waited, and still nothing.

I gave him the benefit of the doubt and waited until the following evening to send a follow-up text. Still nothing, what gives?

4. Acceptance

A week and a half went by and I slowly came to the realization that he ghosted me. It was unexpectedly sudden. We never had awkward debates, or silences during our get-together’s, so why would he have ghosted me?

My mind was racing. Was I too pushy? Maybe, asking for too much? These thoughts were repeating like a broken record.

5. We Ran Into Each Other

Two weeks later, I headed down to a quaint little coffee shop early in the morning. As I finished my order, I turned around to see him heading right behind me in line. He greeted me as if he hadn’t ghosted me. I played along at first, then blatantly asked him what his problem was.

Come to find out, he only viewed me as a friend and considered our casual meetings to be nothing more than that. As far as ghosting me, he was really busy.

6. Afterwards

Although he ghosted me, we still remain good friends. The lack of communication played a huge part. Downtown San Diego helped me learn a lot about myself, dating, and the fact that my love life is almost non-existent. Being ghosted totally sucks.

Advice I’d give to myself: keep being you. If someone doesn’t like you in a romantic way, don’t get sad about it. Just keep living life.
