The Biggest Street Style Trends

Have you ever heard of Street Style Trends? If not, you’re not alone because neither have I. But after researching it and learning about this new term, I have learned that it became global in the 1990s. It’s New York hip hop fashion meets the Californian surf culture, but can also include sportswear, punk clothing, Japanese style wear and pretty much everything in between.

Are you overwhelmed yet?

If you think about it, each and every human on earth wears some sort of Street Style Trends. If you travel to a new city and are exploring the streets, you probably (hopefully) packed a specific outfit for that occasion. If you’re leaving your house to do errands downtown and know that you’re going to be gone for more than a few hours, you’re most likely going to put on a decent outfit. Unless you’re like me and wear athletic clothes on almost the daily. If you walk around the streets of New York, Street Style Trends are EVERYWHERE and photographers and models are obsessed with this look and truthfully, I would be too. It’s SUCH a cool vibe and with social media, it’s growing now more than ever before even though it’s been around for decades.

Here are some of the hottest Street Style Trends that stylists, fashionistas and just your average everyday people are seeing all around the world.

Street style from Paris Fashion Week

What trends are in for street style?

#1: Different shapes and styles are in.

From angular shoulders, dimensions are that are wild and asymmetrical hemlines, street style is not longer looking back to where is first started, but is looking towards the future.

#2: Why not go twisted prep-school?

Although street style is a completely new term for me in the fashion world that I am now learning SO much about, I never would have thought that “school” and all it’s preppiness would be one of the biggest trends. From neckties with neutral color button ups and jackets that are not worn fully, but more so lay on the shoulder and the also new fashion trend of mini skirts, prep school is back and is in your everyday street wear.

One of my favorite outfits that I have seen is this one below because it gives off a retro prep school vibe that is also incredibly fashionable. I also love the pop of color in the pants and the brown jacket that doesn’t match, but goes perfectly with the outfit.

#3: All whites

If you’re paying any attention to the street style outfits, then you must already know that white on white is one of the biggest hits. Wearing white alone is never a terrible idea. It’s a reflective color and lights up your face in not an intruding way, but more subtle way instead. Also, absolutely anything goes with white and you can always add a pop of color to truly make your outfit stand out.

#4: Goth fashion is back

Gothic fashion is back and it’s making a statement right now as we speak. This is the perfect style for anyone, especially if you want to make your outfit more edgy. This trend first came back in September 2021 and I don’t see it going away anytime soon. From combat boots, studded belts, fishnet stockings and all black, you’re bound to have all eyes on you at some point in time if you’re going for the gothic look this summer or fall.

#5: Throw on some puff

I’ve noticed a lot of puffy jackets and coats with the street style trend. I’m not sure if it’s new or has been here for quite some time, but I love it. It gives outfits more texture and honestly, I believe that it not only compliments the look, but completes it as well. Although if I was you, I wouldn’t be wearing anything puffy in the summer, even if you think the outfit will not be great without it. With the heatwaves going on all around the world, it’s just to hot, but in the end, you do you!

Are you ready for the races?

Are you ready for the races? Yes, you read that correctly. Moto jackets are in with patterned pants and glasses to match. This seems like an odd street style trend, but I can why it’s popular. Why? It’s different. It makes you stand out and it sure does make you look like you have places to be even if you don’t. I love this look below and she looks absolutely stunning! A purple, black and white striped outfit (it looks like a one piece) with some combat boots and she looks like she is ready to take on the world or possibly, a walk on the runway.

Corsets have not disappeared

Today more than ever are corsets worn by many women. Why? It’s been a necessary supportive undergarment for women for decades. They’re also used to slim the body and make a fashion statement, which is definitely does. By curving the body using corsets, it reduces the waste and shows off more of the bust and hips. Through the thousands of pictures I have looked at of street wear, this seems to be a common piece of clothing and they’re all worn differently. I’ve seen models wear them alone with just jeans, or a shirt underneath. I’ve seen them worn with mini skirts, overalls and I swear, everything in between. Out of the many Street Style Trends, I believe that this one is at the top of the list because of how popular they have been in the past couple of years. I will say this: you are beautiful just the way you look and if you don’t like the way you look, change your body in healthy ways and consult your doctor if you need some extra help. Yes, corsets may look pretty (and if you don’t think so, that’s fine too) but there’s also some health risks like fainting and low energy that comes with them because often times they’re laced up too tightly. Just be careful, love your body and take care of it because you only have one.
