The Best Movies For When You Want a Good Cry

Some movies are good for when you want to fall in love, when you want to be frightened and when you want a good cry. Who doesn’t love a tear-jerker movie? Tear-jerker movies can range from a beautiful love story to a sad tragedy and to an inspirational true story. All these movies can be a trigger for a flood of tears.

Sometimes a good cry can be the solution to all your problems. A perfect answer to letting out all the emotion bottled up inside of you. Watching a movie is also the perfect cover-up to when you need to cry, but are a person that doesn’t want to shows their emotions. These are the best movies for when you want a good cry. These movies range from heart-warming to romantic and sad. Don’t forget to bring a box of tissues with you!

1. Marley and Me (2008)

Starring: Jennifer Aniston, Owen Wilson

A film directed at and tugs at the heart of all dog lovers (or pet lovers). You are guaranteed to be in a flood of tears. This film follows John and Jenny Grogan throughout their years of having their pet dog Marley. From adopting Marley to her final days. It will pull at your heartstrings and open your eyes to the true value of your dog (if you have one). Be prepared and have a box of tissues with you!

2. Five Feet Apart (2019)

Starring: Haley Lu Richardson, Cole Sprouse

Inspired by a real-life couple with cystic fibrosis. This film follows the lives of two young patients with cystic fibrosis. They fall in love despite being forced to stay a certain distance away from each other due to their condition, five feet apart. A classic romantic love story which will make you fall in love and shed some tears.

3. Up (2009)

Starring: Edward Anser, Jordan Nagai

Another beautifully crafted classic animation film from Pixar. This film follows the friendship between an elderly widower named Carl Fredricksen and a young boy named Russell. This film has everything – it is happy, funny, sad and has a wonderful ending. The first 20 minutes is what will really get you. Be prepared to have tears in your eyes from the very beginning.

5. Room (2015)

Starring: Brie Larson, Jacob Tremblay

A touching story about the unbreakable bond between a mother and her son. A mother and her son enter the outside world for the first time in many years after being held captive in a garden shed. Their escape allows her son to experience the outside world for the very first time. The innocence and vulnerability of the son will pull on your heartstrings. This film will make sure you treasure your loved ones, life and the world.

No matter whether it is a romance movie, sad movie or true movie – they can all be tear-jerkers. Sometimes the solution to all your problems is a good cry and watching a movie is the perfect way to do so. Before you begin watching these movies, make sure you have a box of tissues beside you!
