The Best And Worst Products That Glossier Has To Offer

Glossier has been shaking up the beauty industry with its minimal approach towards makeup and its focus on good skin; their motto being that they create beauty products inspired by real life. But with over 36 seemingly raved about products, ranging from the body to fragrance to skincare to makeup, there are bound to be a few misses in the bunch. To find out more, here is a list of some of the best and worst products that Glossier has to offer.

Best

1. Boy Brow

The Glossier Boy Brow is hands down one of the most popular and well-loved products that the brand has ever launched.  This pomade textured gel is available in 4 shades and imparts a natural, full and youthful eyebrow look while keeping everything in place all day and filling them in with a bit of colour.

It fits right in with the brands “no makeup” makeup aesthetic but can also be used as a finishing touch in any full-coverage queens routine. With its lightweight texture, foolproof application and all day flexible hold, it’s no surprise that the Boy Brow is one of the better products Glossier has to offer.

2. Generation G

Generation G lipstick is a product where Glossier definitely gets props for listening to consumer critiques. Recently reformulated for a more moisturizing feel and repackaged in a more secure chubby tube, this sheer matte provides the lips with a just-blotted, fresh-faced look that, even though a little dry on initial application, feels weightless and comfortable on the lips.

It can definitely be built up to fuller coverage. The lipstick has a light rose scent that isn’t too overpowering and is not only great for everyday wear, but also for a more subtle and low-maintenance evening look as well. Although it never claims to be long-wearing, this lipstick needs reapplying throughout the day and won’t stick around for hours on end.

3. Stretch Concealer

With a light to medium coverage and a dewy finish, the Glossier Stretch Concealer is not meant to turn your face into a matte blank canvas. What it IS meant to do, however, which is to impart a more natural, undetectable and flexible coverage, it does extremely well.

Now available in over 12 different shades ranging from fair to deep, this ultimate no makeup concealer “inspired by skin” offers a buildable formula that will do a decent job of covering dark circles, blemishes and redness without making you look like a birthday cake. Loved by many, this is an amazing option for combination to dry skin types but can be worn by those with oilier skin as well, just don’t forget to powder.

4. Cloud Paint

A second top rated, highly praised and popular product, similar to the Boy Brow, has got to be their gel-cream Cloud Paint blushes. Highly pigmented and super easy to use, this seamless, sheer and buildable blush comes in 6 shades that, according to Glossier, can work across a wide range of skin tones for a healthy flushed-from-within glow.

A little goes a long way, so the $22 price point is more than justified and application is seamless and blends into the skin like a dream. It won’t accentuate any texture or fine lines you may have and does a great job at sticking around throughout the day.

5. Balm Dotcom

The final top rated Glossier product that is enjoyed by almost anyone, whether you wear little to no makeup, a full beat, are young, old or just curious about the hype, is the Balm Dotcom universal salve. This hydrating and multi-purpose lip balm and salve comes in 7 delicious flavours, some tinted others clear, and offers a dense and wavy texture that seals in moisture and doesn’t slip and slide all over your face.

The original unscented formula is perfect for anyone with sensitive chapped skin while the cherry flavour gives off a fruity smell and a sheer healthy-looking red tint. There is also a sweet pinky-rose, a shimmery vanilla scented birthday cake flavour, clear coconut and mint and a new mango scented balm with a translucent coral shade. Glossier highly encourages you to collect them all.

Worst

1. Soothing Face Mist

A less favourable selection in the Glossier line would unquestionably be their Soothing Face Mist. Predominantly composed of irritating rose water, this spray has been known to burn the eyes when applied and even, for some, burn and turn their skin red.

Even though it contains quite a few soothing and hydrating ingredients like aloe, glycerin and honeysuckle, it still isn’t enough to redeem this heavily fragranced skin-sensitizing mist that should have no permanent place in your skincare routine. Granted it does have a nice spray that feels fresh and lightly hydrating after initial application but won’t do you any favours in the long run.

2. Invisible Shield

Although elegantly formulated and boasting an amazing concept that would make SPF more wearable for everyone (especially darker skin tones), the Invisible Shield Daily Sunscreen unfortunately just doesn’t cut it. The main issue would be the orange peel oil that’s supposed to add a “pleasant scent” but just acts as an irritant and can be skin-sensitizing and photosensitizing, which means the ingredient is sensitive to sunlight and that can have negative effects on your skin.

Also, many customers have pointed out the ineffective and low UVA protection this sunscreen offers with only 3% Avobenzone in the formula. With so many better options for sun protection out there or until Glossier decides to reformulate, this is a definite skip for now.

3. Lidstar

This cream eyeshadow was meant to be long-wearing and provide an easy application for a subtle wash of buildable colour to the lids. Regrettably, when it comes to each of those aspects it missed the mark for many customers.

Even though the pigmentation is meant to be subtle, the colours are said to be barely visible when applied to the eyes and that they simply don’t build very nicely, they can become patchy, hard to blend and crease quite easily. In addition, some experienced a burning sensation when they spread it on their lids.

4. Lip Gloss

The Glossier Lip Gloss is not inherently a bad product. The formulation isn’t extremely irritating nor is the packaging horrendous, wasteful or impractical. It is simply a matter of it being an unoriginal, unjustifiably pricey and, though it claims to not be sticky, super sticky product. If you enjoy it fine, but they have much better products to invest in.

5. Glitter Gelée

This final Glossier product is part of the recently launched Play line and is described as a one-step glitter gel that can be added anywhere on the face or body for a jewelled effect. Sadly, this chunky gloop is not all it aspires to be with the glitter being too chunky for some tastes and the product sometimes burning around the eye area.

However, the main reason why people are furious and appalled by this product is the fact that it contains microplastics that aren’t biodegradable. Not only is it detrimental to the environment, but also to marine life since these bits will eventually end up in the oceans. To be frank, if you are looking for a good glitter gel, don’t feel too bad about missing out on this irresponsible and not too impressive option.
