Lighting pieces are the key to getting anything done before sunrise and after sunset. Without any lighting pieces in your home, you would probably go to bed at 6pm in the winter. While living an electricity-free lifestyle might appeal to you, perhaps you would be even more drawn to the idea of walking into a comfortable homey space at any time of day and enjoying a book or good conversation over a soft warm glow of electricity. If you read The Little Book of Hygge, you have probably seen these lighting pieces. Poul Henningsen’s design is meant to reflect light to reduce glare. The result is a light that is soft and not at all harsh from any angle in the room. PH lamps fall on the higher end of the price range of lighting fixtures but this pendant piece is a ground-breaking design that is a part of history. Hang it in a room to create a romantic and relaxing atmosphere.
These rock salt lamps look like they were just taken out of a salt mine and look beautiful just as a decorative piece. However, the magic really happens when you turn the light on (Dumbledore would agree). The pink glow that floats around these lamps like halos will transform your room into a warm, fairytale-like space. The rough and raw look of them adds an element of texture to your space which contrasts nicely with the pink glow. Set up one (or a bunch) of these in a room where light is non-essential. Personally, I think these lighting pieces are perfect for the bedroom or perhaps a meditation space. Somehow, the salt lamps have an effect of enchanting sleepiness on me. Judging by their appearance, the colour of these salt lamps are the polar opposite of blue light from screens; perhaps it has something to do with that.

This bamboo ceiling lamp hits the sweet spot perfectly. The spherical shape is an unexpected twist on traditional woven bamboo lighting pieces. The bamboo ball hanging from the ceiling just has a very disco ball feel to it; this is perfect for a disco-lover and green thumb in one. On Ikea’s website, they have modelled them as dining room lighting pieces but I personally think it would be the perfect statement fixture for a sunny reading room.
