10 Social Media Habits To Break While You’re Still Young

Young people are known for being glued to their phones and spending too much time on social media. Many have bad habits related to using social media and may have no idea they are even doing them. Here are some social media habits to break while you are young.

1. Checking your social media when spending time with loved ones

Being on your phone while spending time with other people is rude. It is important to make the most of the time you have with loved ones. Turn your phone on silent (not vibrate) and actually listen to those you are talking to.

2. Posting every detail of your every day

Nobody needs to know what you are doing at every moment and with whom. Only post if you have something truly worthy of posting. Do not post statuses and tag people in things that can be sent to people privately, such as plans.

3. Scrolling first thing in the morning or right before bedtime

Scrolling first thing in the morning can be demotivating. So many people post about how tough it is to wake up early. Using your phone before going to bed can make it difficult to sleep because of the lights on your screen.

4. Stalking your exes

There is a reason why you and your exes are no longer together. After you break up, there is no reason to keep checking their social media profiles. You need to and deserve to move on to better things. If you want to be friends, reach out to them. Don’t creep.

5. Aimlessly opening the apps

Aimlessly opening social media apps just to scroll can lead to hours of being unproductivity. Unless you have time to kill, stay off social media. Feel free to check notifications between tasks, but avoid mindlessly scrolling until you finished everything you need to accomplish.

6. Checking notifications when driving

This is one of the most important social media habits to break as early as possible. Texting and driving is a bad idea, but so is checking notifications on social media. You need to stay focused on the road and the other cars around you so you can arrive at your destination safely. No post or notification is worth risking your life. They can wait.

7. Comparing yourself to others based on social media posts

People typically only post about the best things going on in their lives, such as marriages, pregnancies, promotions, and other big news. However, these things can lead to feelings of inadequacy in those who do not have these things. Do not compare yourself to these posts. Everybody has hard times and struggles.

8. Pulling up personal accounts at work

It may be tempting to check notifications at work. However, most workplaces have policies about personal phone usage while on the job. Even if social media is part of your job, resist the urge to scroll aimlessly until you get a break.

9. Posting things simply for likes

Social media platforms were made for staying in touch with friends, family, and other loved ones. It may be tempting to post statuses and photos simply for likes or attention. Doing this reflects negatively on you. Only post updates that are relevant and do not aim for attention.

10. Regularly posting PDA images of you and your romantic partner

While many may be happy that you found someone you love, constantly posting photos of you two kissing or being over-the-top adorable can be annoying. Not everyone is a fan of public displays of attention, so avoid posting cutesy pictures on a regular basis or without reason.
