The Ultimate Ranking Of Freshman Dorms At Loyola Marymount University

All the freshman dorms at Loyola Marymount University are only minutes away from classes, food, and fun, but there are definite perks to some dorms. Ultimately, there really is a dorm to fit everyone’s needs. Take a look at this ranking of the freshmen dorms, from worst to best!

8. Huesman

Affectionately known as “Dudesman”, this all-boys dorm ranks low on the list at LMU. Although there is a sense of brotherhood that arises between the residents, the dorm always smells a little like feet and BO.

7. McKay

The benefit of this residence hall is the suite-style rooms, but that’s about it. Home to a mix of freshmen, sophomores, and transfer students, McKay boasts access to the campus diner, Iggy’s, but the dorm is known for having hot rooms in the summer and facilities that often break down.

6. Rosecrans

Called “Ragecrans” for its parties, the residents in Rosecrans always seem to have to uphold the reputation by receiving write-ups in the first week of school. An older dorm, Rosecrans is perfect for those who intend to party more than they study.

5. Whelan

Home to the LAX, Los Angeles Experience, theme housing, Whelan ranks close behind Rosecrans for its late night lifestyles and adventures. The dorm is identical to Rosecrans in terms of architecture and room size.

4. Sullivan

Although Sullivan has high ceilings, a lounge, and an air-conditioned academic center, the all-girls dorm is often extremely quiet, and the residents complain of a lack of community. This dorm is perfect for those who are more shy, but sometimes the introvertedness of the residents can be overwhelming.

3. Desmond

Where all-girls housing is concerned, Desmond is the best dorm. Is location near the majority of the coed freshman dorms mediates the single-gender building. Inside, the larger rooms have big windows. An added perk, Desmond is one of two freshman dorms with sinks in the rooms, which makes everything from getting ready in the morning to washing dishes easier.

2. Doheny

Doheny boasts quite a few perks. This coed dorm is home to the Honors freshman and is the second dorm with sinks in the rooms. A lounge, study room, and laundry on the second floor make it easy to study and do chores without going far. The only downside to Doheny is the small rooms, often called cribs by residents.

1. Del Rey North and South

These twin coed dorms have large rooms and lounges on every floor. The biggest group of freshman are concentrated among these dorms, so it makes meeting people easy. Most athletes live in these dorms, and there are a few living learning communities for science and engineering majors. But the best perk of Del Rey North and South is the potential to catch a glimpse of LMU’s famous bluff views. Lucky residents that live on the outer edge of the dorms have a chance to see the sunrise and sunset over the ocean, Playa Vista, and the distant downtown area of Los Angeles.
