10 People We Want To See Host SNL

Saturday Night Live is back people for a whopping season 46, and although the show has launched the career of numerous stars, and has had too many memorable hosts to count, it is 2020 aka the worse year ever, but that isn’t celebrities’ fault. So we think it’s time to add 10 more celebrities to the list of SNL hosts. Without further ado here are “10 Celebrities We Want To See Host SNL” (this season, or any season really, but preferably sooner is better than later because there might not be a later)!

1. Zendaya

After her historic making 72nd Emmy win for her starring role as Rue in HBO’s Euphoria, Zendaya became the youngest woman, and second black woman to win the Emmy for best actress in a drama series category. Sometimes it’s easy to forget Zendaya got her start on Disney channel, starring opposite only fan scammer, Bella Thorne, in the hit show Shake It Up. Maybe it’s because Zendaya has made the transition from Disney darling to bonafide Hollywood star look so effortless. Unlike other celebrities, Zendaya didn’t even have to twerk on Robin Thicke with a foam finger to shed her Disney persona. But what folks may not know, behind the scenes Zendaya was carefully crafting her leap from child actress to Hollywood heavyweight. While still on Disney channel, Zendaya was nabbing roles in the films Spider-Man: Homecoming, Small Foot, and The Greatest Showman.

After Shake It Up was canceled, Zendaya was ready to leave the Disney channel, but Disney was determined to keep her. Zendaya agreed to stay on, and star in the show K.C Undercover, but only if she was a co-producer on the show. Zendaya’s goal was to bring much-needed diversity to the house of mouse. In an interview with Glamour magazine, Zendaya said “People can’t quite understand what it’s like to grow up and not see yourself in mainstream media.”

Since leaving Disney, Zendaya has continued to use her voice to fight for justice and equality. Zendaya is many things: fashion icon, Hollywood leading lady, activist, Giuliana Rancic roaster- why we are dying for her to add SNL host to that list. Zendaya has already proven she is a more than capable actress with the comedic chops to back it up, but more importantly she is the kind of role model we need right now. A champion of the young people, Zendaya made a point to end her Emmy award acceptance speech with these words, “This is a really weird time to be celebrating but I just want to say that there is hope in the young people out there, I know that our TV show doesn’t always feel like a great example of that but there is hope in young people. To my peers out there doing work in the streets, I see you, I admire you, I thank you.”

2. Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara

The best Canadian exports since maple syrup, sorry Justin Bieber, Eugene Levy and Catherine O’Hara are some of the funniest celebrities in comedy, and I will personally kick start the online campaign to get these decades-long Hollywood vets to host what would undoubtedly be a side-splitting episode of SNL. The patriarch and matriarch of the beloved Rose family on the show Schitt’s Creek, a riches to rags story, won both stars the best lead actor and actress in a comedy series awards at this year’s Emmys. Their outrageous portrayals of Johnny and Moira Rose (how can you not love Moira’s accent which is unknown to the real world), has made Levy and O’Hara household names for a newer generation. But for those who don’t know, or aren’t cult comedy fans, Levy and O’Hara have been working alongside each other since the 1970s.

First meeting in an improv comedy group in Toronto, the same city where you can catch Drake chilling on top of the CN Tower, Levy and O’Hara have collaborated on-screen in the Christopher Guest films A Mighty Wind, Best In Show, Waiting For Guffman, and For Your Consideration. If you need further proof this comedy duo would be amazing SNL hosts, check out any of these mockumentaries. My personal favorite is Best In Show. In the film, Levy and O’Hara play Gerry and Cookie Fleck, a middle-class couple from Florida competing in a dog show. When the audience is first introduced to Gerry and Cookie, the couple tells the story about how the two first met at a dance. Cookie asked Gerry to dance, but he declined since he has two left feet. The camera man then zooms out on Gerry’s close up, revealing Gerry’ literally has two left feet. Gerry continues that the kids in school used to make fun of him, and call him Loopy because he could only walk in circles.

I’m Dead.

3. Kim Kardashian

Okay so I adore Paris Hilton, in fact I’ve learned many lessons from her that I implement into my daily life, such as if you never want to do anything ever again, do it wrong the first time, or always pretend you’re talking on the phone when you’re in public. But some people forget that DJ Paris Hilton hosted S.N.L in 2005 during the height of Hilton mania. And all though Kim Kardashian is featured in Hilton’s newly released documentary This Is Paris, where she is introduced as Paris’ friend, and formal assistant- oh the shade of it all! We all know Kardashian has surpassed Paris as the queen of being famous for being famous, while also achieving stardom Hilton never reached. Kind of like in Ru Paul’s Drag Race: All Stars season 2, when Phi Phi O’Hara from season 4 of Ru Paul’s Drag Race states season 4 put drag race on the map, to which Detox from season 5 quips “You put it on the map, but we just hit it out of the park.” Hilton is season 4 in this scenario.

Kim Kardashian has not just turned herself, but her whole family into celebrities while simultaneously turning the Kardashian brand into a global phenomenon. Therefore I would love to see Kardashian host S.N.L because if you ask me, she has totally earned it! And if you disagree just look at how far Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney have all come since their questionable bikini photoshoot for Girls Gone Wild in season 1 of Keeping Up With The Kardashians– like what a glow up. And although her husband Kanye West most likely has been banned from ever returning to the SNL stage, Kim surely hasn’t. And with 20 seasons of KUWTK to pull from, there definitely wouldn’t be a shortage of material the SNL writers could use for sketches. Besides the sketches practically writing themselves, there would for sure be cameos from the famous members of the Kardashian family, can you say comedy “You guys.”

4. Beanie Feldstein

This girl is really something, just two months after leaving college, Beanie Feldstein found herself at her first table read for a major motion picture. Meanwhile, me fresh out of college, and I’m still using my ex-boyfriend’s Hulu account since I can’t afford my own #shameless. You most likely know Beanie Feldstein for her roles in Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising, Lady Bird, and Booksmart, she was the one stealing all the scenes. In her most recent project How To Build A Girl, we finally get to see Feldstein as a leading lady. What we love most about Feldstein is she refuses to be type casted. Despite Hollywood’s often narrow lens on what a woman should be, Feldstein doesn’t let body stereotypes stop her from going after complex roles.

According to an article in Variety “Beanie Feldstein Graduates to Leading Lady in ‘How to Build A Girl’” by Matt Donnelly, he states Feldstein “Has worked almost exclusively with female directors or producers. She has learned, she says, that no part is worth it unless it has ‘A theme or ethos that women deserve to be as complex, vulnerable, rowdy, funny, warm or sad as much as [in] any other story that’s been told.’” Not only is Feldstein breaking the glass ceiling- YOU GUYS she is also frickin hilarious! Which is the number one thing everyone wants in a SNL host, and no doubt Feldstein would bring her keen sensibility on how to go from deadpan to hilarious outrage to the SNL stage. Also fun fact Feldstein is Joan Hill’s little sister, my mouth is drooling just thinking about all the celebrity cameos that kind of clout gets you. Just Google who the siblings’ famous friends are, go ahead I’ll wait.

5. Stephen Colbert

I first fell in love with Stephen Colbert (the T is silent btw), for his portrayal of the character Stephen Colbert (pronounced with the T), on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report. The Colbert Report was a satire news show, but Colbert’s background is actually in improv theatre, and his first big break was on the cult television sketch show Strangers With Candy. Nowadays Colbert is most known as the king of late night thanks to his gig as host of CBS’s The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, and can I just say thank god he stole that crown from Jimmy Fallon. I’m sorry with the whole world on fire I could care less about Fallon having a lip sync battle with celebrities even if it is Tom Cruise impersonating the Weeknd- okay that was pretty good but you get my point . Another quick sidebar- if you don’t follow the news, I’m assuming you mostly likely don’t vote, so please check your privilege, and don’t forget to vote this year on November 3. Alright, off my soap box.

Colbert is a comedian, writer, producer, political commentator, actor, and television host, with such an impressive resume it is hard to imagine that Colbert would not make an absolutely amazing SNL host, I mean Colbert literally has a background in improv, and sketch comedy. Besides that Colbert has a plethora of famous friends who would make terrific cameos, such as the much beloved John Stewart, and John Oliver aka the stars of my most twisted sexual fantasies. What can I say, I have a thing for funny dudes who talk about politics. But what would just be the creme de la creme of Colbert hosting SNL, would be if his long time friend turned movie star Steve Carell, made a guest appearance, and the two resurrected their sketch waiters nauseated by food. The two first met when they both were hired at Second City in Chicago, and then worked together on the short lived but funny The Dana Carvey Show, where the two friends blessed us with the sketch waiters nauseated by food.

6. Cardi B

If you ever find me cackling at my phone screen in public like a freak, 9 out of 10 times it’s because I’m either seeing social media posts from Cardi B, or seeing that my ex liked one of my thirst traps. An exotic dancer hasn’t made this much buzz since 2007 when Diablo Cody won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for Juno. Former exotic dancer turned hip hop star, Cardi B is at the top of her game, dominating the summer charts with her hit single WAP, but it is now fall and we would love to see Cardi host an episode of this season of SNL. If you’re thinking don’t you mean musical guest, then you clearly have never seen any of Cardi’s interviews, Instagram, or “Carpool Karaoke with James Corden,” which is the definition of kulture. Because if you did, you would know Cardi B is not just the queen of rap, but one of the funniest celebrities on the planet. Before she was scaring middle America with her song WAP, Cardi B got her start as a social media influencer, thanks to her unfiltered, honest, and fricken hilarious posts. And Cardi B would no doubt bring her special brand of humor to the SNL stage, and I’m sure the writers could fit in a sketch about Cardi’s iconic comeback from her days on Love & Hip Hop: “a girl have beef with me, she gon’ have beef with me…[dramatic stare] foreva.”

7. Laura Dern

Laura Dern, holy shit this woman can act! With the line heard around the world, “I will not NOT be rich,” Dern was arguably the best thing about season 2 of HBO’s Big Little Lies. Which is say something since she was acting alongside Hollywood heavy weights, and celebrities: Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, and queen Meryl Streep. Dern is an industry professional, and has been in many successful films such as the original Jurassic Park, and more recently Little Women, and Marriage Story. So can we now pretty please see the Oscar winner flex her acting chops as SNL host.

8. Keanu Reeves

In the 90’s Keanu Reeves was everywhere thanks to his starring roles in films such as The Matrix, and Bram Stoker’s Dracula, but in recent years there has been a Keanu Reeves renaissance thanks to his role as a dog-loving assassin in John Wick, a hilarious version of himself in Always Be My Maybe, and finally voicing the lovable stuntman Duke Kaboom in Toy Story 4.  Reeves is one of those celebrities that should have hosted SNL years ago, but now more than ever would be the perfect time for the actor to take his talents to the SNL stage. Fingers crossed we’ll see the star in season 46.

9. Sarah Paulson

I almost didn’t put Sarah Paulson on this list because of her recent role in Netflix’s Ratched. The show as a whole was so bad on top of being the prequel nobody asked for. But after careful thought I realized that Ryan Murphy deserved all the blame, and even though the show was a total character assassination of one of films’ most infamous villains, Paulson was truly the show’s saving grace. Throughout the show Paulson still managed to knock the acting out of the park. Which she has consistently done in everything she has ever been in like American Horror Story for example, or her most recent film Run. Paulson is one of the most brilliant actors of our time, and the Emmy and Golden Globe winner would make a killer (pun intended), SNL host.

10. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle

I would bet my life on this that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hosting SNL will never happen, but maybe they do it as one final F U to the crown. I just think everyone’s favorite royals would make great hosts, not only are they a culturally diverse couple, but they’re tireless activists who use their fame for good. Plus Markle was an actress after all, before becoming a duchess she was on the legendary show Suits, that’s sarcasm btw, but she does have the acting background to carry the two through the gig. Anyway a girl can dream.

There you have it folks, 10 celebrities that I would do anything short of cutting off my right arm to see host Saturday Night Live, which you can catch every Saturday (duh) on NBC at 11:30 ET. This is my short list of celebrities I believe would make outstanding hosts, but there are so many more out there, What celebrities do you want to see host this season?  Comment below, and I’ll either agree or think you have the worse taste in the world.
