10 More Major News Stories Not Related To The Coronavirus That You Probably Didn’t Hear About

Most of the news stories featured on television news and in the papers have been about the coronavirus pandemic. All of the news stories about the coronavirus covered by the media range between updates on death tolls, events (sports, concerts, conferences, tournaments, etc.) being cancelled and/or postponed, briefings from the White House, and updates on when professional sports will return — just to name a few.

Now, I know I already wrote an article on “10 Major News Stories Not Related To The Coronavirus That You Probably Didn’t Hear About,” but ever since that article was published on April 11, there have been many more notable events that have yet to receive as much attention as they should have due to the ongoing pandemic.

As a result of the heavy coverage on the coronavirus pandemic, there are a plethora of major news stories and events not related to the virus that most people probably haven’t heard about. These major non-coronavirus related news stories range from sports to celebrity news to pop culture to natural disasters to human interest.

So, without further adieu, here are 10 more major news stories not related to the coronavirus that you probably didn’t hear about:

1. Kim Jong-Un’s Long Period of Absence From Public Appearances:

One of the biggest news stories within the last few weeks had to do with whether or not Kim Jong-Un (center in the photo below), the Supreme Leader of North Korea, was dead. Speculations over his whereabouts came after he was absent from celebrations commemorating the April 15 birthday (a national holiday in North Korea) of North Korea’s founder, his grandfather Kim Il Sun.

As the world questioned where the North Korean leader was, news stories were being reported from multiple media outlets that he was in grave danger after undergoing heart surgery. A Japanese media outlet even reported that he was in a “vegetative state.” Amid the many news stories being published about him, South Korean Officials declared that “Kim Jong-Un is alive and well.”

All of the speculation of whether Kim Jong-Un was alive or dead ended on May 1 when the North Korean dictator appeared at a ceremony at a new fertilizer factory in the city of Sunchon, where he cut the ribbon. The factory opening was Kim Jong Un’s first public appearance since he attended a government meeting on April 11

2. Anderson Cooper Became A Dad:

At the end of CNN’s Town Hall that aired on April 30, Anderson Cooper announced that he became a father to a baby boy via surrogate on April 27. The baby’s name is Wyatt Morgan Cooper. Check out Anderson’s Instagram post below to see photos of Wyatt and the special meaning behind his name.

3. The 5.5-Magnitude Earthquake In Puerto Rico:

Another major news story is about the 5.5-magnitude earthquake that hit Ponce, a city in southern Puerto Rico, this past weekend. The US Geological Survey reported that there were other earthquakes ranging from 3.4 to 4.9 that have also hit the same area. Take a look at the damage in the photo below.

4. A Man Got Arrested For Camping At Walt Disney World’s Discovery Island:

Of all the news stories featured in this article, this one will have you going “WTF?” the most. On April 30, Richard McGuire (the man in the mugshot below), a 42-year-old man from Mobile, Alabama, was arrested after camping on Walt Disney World’s (which has been closed since mid-March due to the coronavirus pandemic) Discovery Island.

He reportedly told the police that he didn’t know he was trespassing on what looked to him like a “tropical paradise,” according to the police report. McGuire was charged with a misdemeanor for trespassing. He has also received a ban from all Disney properties.

5. Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik Are Expecting Their First Child Together:

Since March, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has become a household name for his matter-of-fact delivery of information during White House press conferences amid the coronavirus pandemic. After giving an important pandemic update on CNN on April 10th, Fauci was asked by Alisyn Camerota which actor he would like to play him on Saturday Night Live (SNL). He answered, “Oh, Brad Pitt, of course,” with a chuckle.

Two weeks later, the April 25 SNL episode’s (the show’s second episode since its temporary suspension on March 16) cold open featured Brad Pitt playing Dr. Fauci. Watch Pitt’s, who recently won The Oscar for Best Supporting Actor, portrayal of Fauci in SNL‘s cold open below.

One major crime news story that recently took place was Norwegian businessman Tom Hagen (in the photo below) being arrested on suspicion of killing his wife, Anne-Elisabeth Hagen, who disappeared 18 months ago. Anne-Elisabeth has not been seen since October 2018. Norwegian police believe that she was killed, not abducted, and have enough evidence to “suspect” Tom of her murder.

“It is important to emphasize that, although we have charged Tom Hagen, the case is still being investigated and there are several unanswered questions,” Øst Police District said in a statement, according to CNN.

Hagen, a real estate investor and power facilities owner, is one of Norway’s richest men. His net worth is around $200 million, according to Norwegian financial magazine Kapital

9. The Drive-By Shooting At Duck Dynasty Star Willie Robertson’s Estate:

From all of the news stories included in this article, the events of this story will probably leave you just as shook as Duck Dynasty‘s the Robertson family were. Willie Robertson, the patriarch of the Robertsons, said that his family was the victim of a drive-by shooting on April 24 where eight to 10 shots were fired from the road into his estate in West Monroe, Louisiana.

One of the shots went through the bedroom window of the home where Willie’s son John Luke lives with his wife Mary Kate McEachern and their infant child. Luckily, nobody in the family was injured. On April 27, Daniel King Jr., the suspected shooter, was arrested.

10. NFL Quarterback Andy Dalton Signed With The Dallas Cowboys:

Besides Rob Gronkowski coming out of retirement to play with former Patriots teammate Tom Brady for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the 2020 NFL Draft, another one of the biggest sports news stories was NFL quarterback Andy Dalton signing a one-year deal with the Dallas Cowboys on May 2. The deal is worth up to $7 million, with $3 million guaranteed. It is expected that he will be the Cowboys’ current starting quarterback Dak Prescott’s (who’s in the middle of ongoing contract negotiations) backup for the 2020 season.

Dalton’s signing with the Cowboys came two days after he was released by the Cincinnati Bengals (the team for which he played his entire NFL career), who drafted him in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft. The former Bengals quarterback’s signing was a surprise for many and had the entire NFL world talking
