10 Memorable Super Bowl Commercials

One of the most anticipated aspects of The Super Bowl that everyone around the country cannot wait to see are The Super Bowl Commercials. Over the years, some Super Bowl Commercials have made a lasting impact due to its storyline, memorable material, hilarious content, to name a few things about what makes a great Super Bowl Commercial. Now, with that being said, listed below are 10 of the Most Memorable Super Bowl Commercials:

10. Snickers, “Betty White” (2010):

This Super Bowl Commercial by Snickers aired in 2010 and features a then 88-year-old Betty White (She’s now 98-years-old). The commercial was a hit and launched Snickers’s “You’re not you when you’re hungry” campaign and played a huge role in revitalizing the brand’s entire image.

9. Old Spice, “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” (2010):

Besides Snickers’s “Betty White” commercial, another ad from the 2010 Super Bowl that became an instant hit with fans is Old Spice’s “The Man Your Man Could Smell Like” ad. Starring Isaiah Mustafa as The Man Your Man Could Smell Like, the commercial not only cemented itself as one of the most memorable Super Bowl Commercials of all time but also a place in popular culture.

Old Spice has featured Mustafa in many other of its commercials over the years. Mustafa even reprised his character in one of Tide’s Super Bowl Commercials that aired during the 2018 Super Bowl. 

8. McDonald’s, “The Showdown” (1993):

For Super Bowl XVII in 1993, McDonald’s commercial featured NBA Hall of Famers Michael Jordan and Larry Bird playing an outrageous game of Horse. The winner would get a Big Mac. One knows that
“The Showdown” is one of the most memorable Super Commercials ever when Jordan and Bird (who are NBA Players) manage to steal the show from the biggest football game of the year. 

7. Volkswagen, “The Force” (2011):

Of all the Super Bowl Commercials that aired in 2011, Volkswagen’s “The Force” was the best. This commercial featured a young boy dressed up as Darth Vader attempting to use The Force on a variety of random objects, but fails each time. After his dad arrives home in his Volkswagen, the little boy then tries to start the car and “Succeeds”. In reality, the father started the car by using a remote control. “The Force” was not only the best Super Bowl ad in 2011, it also ended up becoming one of the most memorable Super Bowl Commercials of all time. 

6. Budweiser, “Puppy Love” (2014):

Budweiser is one of several companies that airs Super Bowl Commercials each year and their 2014 one “Puppy Love” is perhaps the beer company’s best one yet. Set to the song “Let Her Go” by Passenger, this sweet and heart-warming commercial highlights the friendship between a golden retriever puppy and a Clydesdale horse.

Since its airing, “Puppy Love” has gone on to gain over 1.5 million views on Youtube. 

5. Always, “Like a Girl” Commercial (2015):

Super Bowl Commercials become memorable and iconic due to either their content, celebrities featured, and/or the powerful messages the brands try to send. The latter reason is why the “Like A Girl” ad by the maxi-pad company Always stands out.

Airing during Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, the commercial sends a powerful message that girls can do anything and they should be confident in doing whatever it is they are doing. In addition, the ad helped make the phrase “Like a girl” no longer be deemed as derogatory. Girl Power all the way. 

4. NFL, “Touchdown Celebrations To Come” Commercial (2018):

Of all the Super Bowl Commercials in 2018, The NFL’s “Touchdown Celebrations To Come” was the best, funniest, and most memorable one. Starring New York Giants Quarterback Eli Manning and Wide Receiver Odell Beckham Jr., the two recreated the iconic dance to “I Had The Time Of My Life” from Dirty Dancing.

The two teams featuring in Super Bowl LII were The Philadelphia Eagles and The New England Patriots, with the Eagles winning 41-33. Despite the result, The New York Giants definitely won Super Bowl LII. The commercial sent football fans into hysterics, with some chiming in that Eli was now 3-0 in Super Bowls against the Patriots.

3. Pepsi, “Cindy Crawford” Commercial (1992):

Pepsi is one of several brands that airs Super Commercials each year and one of the company’s most memorable ads was the one with Cindy Crawford that aired in 1992 (Super Bowl XXVI).  The company was able to capitalize on the supermodel’s popularity while showcasing Pepsi’s newly designed cans, which were both retro and stylish. 

This Pepsi Ad remains one of the most memorable and iconic Super Commercials of all time as Crawford later revealed that people still come up to tell her how much they loved the commercial. Pepsi even brought her back as one of the celebrities featured in their commercial that aired during Super Bowl LII (held in 2018).

2. Apple, “1984” (1984):

Ranked highly amongst the best Super Bowl Commercials of all time, Apple’s “1984” Commercial only aired once, which was during the third quarter of Super XVIII in 1984. It introduced the Apple Macintosh Computer to the world.

Although it only aired once, the commercial was replayed by network news broadcasts worldwide for weeks and opened the door for Apple to become the giant it is in the computer/technology world today. In addition, the “1984” commercial set up a blueprint for what successful and memorable Super Bowl Commercials should feature and look like. 

1. Wendy’s, “Where’s The Beef?” (1984):

The Wendy’s Commercial that aired in 1984 during Super Bowl XVIII is one of the most memorable Super Commercials of all time! This ad gave birth to one of the most popular catchphrases ever: “Where’s the beef?”. 

The commercial was a massive hit and would turn into a pop culture phenomenon. Business Insider reported that Wendy’s revenue increased by 31% after the commercial aired. In addition, the commercial left an incredible mark on the landscape of advertising.
