How to Prepare for an Easy Summer to Fall Transition

A seamless summer to fall transition is essential for starting the year off strong. We've got you covered with all the tips you'll need!

Well, we’ve finally hit July, so it’s official: we’re halfway though summer!  If that isn’t a sweet relief for you, you’re probably not looking forward to heading back to class.  On the other hand, if you’re someone who can’t wait to get back to school, you’re probably already looking for ways to start getting ready.  Regardless of which category you fall into, continue scrolling for the simple ways to start preparing for your transition back to school this fall.

1. Set up a planner

It seems so old fashioned and unnecessary, but having a planner is super helpful! Check out Pinterest and Tumblr for great organization and decorating ideas to make your planner your own!

2. Print out your schedule

One of the worst feelings out there is missing class due to poor time management skills. Print out a couple copies of your schedule for your room and planner. Add in a couple copies for your roommates and parents so they know when you’ll be around or available for phone calls. An extra tip is to keep an image copy on your phone for at least the first week so you’ll always have a list of buildings and room numbers  to make finding classes easier. Being organized in this department will cause you to be more prepared during your transition!

3. Decide what supplies you will and won’t need

They say it’s better to have and not need than it is to need and not have, but they also say less is more.  Find your balance before you get frazzled back at school. You don’t need more than one stapler or hole punch. Don’t bring too many binders because they take up too much space. But remember that you (or the person next to you in class) can always use some extra pens and pencils.

4. Make sure you have extra printer paper and ink

This one is only relevant for those who bring their own printer to school, but there’s nothing you need less after a full weekend of writing papers than a late night run to Staples!  These are things you’re almost guaranteed to need during your transition, even if just to print your syllabi!

5. Set up Dr.’s appointments now so you won’t forget while at school

When you’re at school, your parents won’t be scheduling all the important stuff for you anymore. It’s time to be an adult and plan this stuff out for yourself, but life can get very busy when you get back to school. Make all your calls now so you won’t forget and you won’t be stressed about making appointments in the fall!

6. Clear out your phone

Nothing is worse than trying to take a picture and being told there’s no storage left. Make sure you clear up space for the pictures you’ll be taking throughout the semester!
