So, you’ve spotted a girl from across the bar that you find attractive and you feel compelled to talk to her. The only problem? You’re not really sure how to get her attention. If you’ve found yourself in this same boat before, keep reading to learn how to get a girl’s attention at the bar (and keep it.)

Be Friendly

Some guys are just naturally charming, and for some it has to be learned. No matter which category you fall in, use what you got. Be friendly and charming in in your initial approach. I’m not saying you have to be on Ryan Gosling’s level, but let’s try not to be on Jonah Hill’s either. Sometimes an extra cheesy pickup line is a good icebreaker, but a lot of the time it will earn you an eye roll, so try to keep it simple. A lot can be said for simply walking right up to her and introducing yourself.

Act Like You’re The Only Guy In The Room

Don’t worry about the other guys at the bar who may have spotted this girl, too. If you think about it too much, you’ll psych yourself out and start to get nervous. The easiest way to go about this is to act as if you are the only guy in the room. It is a simple trick, and she will love your confidence.

Keep It Light

Keep the conversation light and flowing. Laugh, smile, crack a joke. (This does not mean you are a stand-up comedian, though. Crack a joke, not 27.) If you start complaining about how loud it is or how long it takes to get a drink, she might just think you’re a downer.

Don’t Have A Wandering Eye

There is nothing worse than a guy who has a wandering eye as he hits on you. You’re acting like you are the only guy in the room, right? So, act like she is the only girl in the room. If you keep looking at the girls around you, it will look like you are scoping out other options. And she will think you are a tool.

Offer To Buy Her A Drink

This is a step that should come after a good, solid introduction and a couple minutes of conversation. Walking right up to a girl and asking to buy her a drink is not only lazy, it’s setting yourself up for failure. Why, you ask? Your opening line should never be a yes or no question. You’re making it so easy for her to turn you down and walk in the other direction.

Engage Her Friends

If she is with a group of friends, engage them too. Of course, don’t flirt with them all, but putting in that little bit of extra effort will set you apart from other guys. This is a sneaky tip on how to get a girl’s attention because a lot of guys don’t think to talk to the whole group. As long as you don’t mention trying to set one of them up with your buddy Kevin who is creepily lurking a foot behind you, this will score you some brownie points.

Ask For Her Number

Alright, so you have done it all. You have introduced yourself, started a nice conversation, and bought her a drink. Once you have held her attention for a solid 10 minutes, she is much more likely to give you her number. So go for it! The worst she can say is no.
