How To Achieve The Wet-Lip Look

Summer is here and that means you’re probably trying to figure out which hottest makeup trend you should try out on your next date or brunch with girlfriends. If you’re stressing, don’t. You should try out the Wet-Lip Look to spice it up. What I love about this look is that you can customize it to your liking. Do you prefer the no-makeup look? Use clear lip gloss. If you want to rock the 90’s comeback, then use bright colors. If you want the gothic look, stay with the darker and more bolder reds and purples. Now let’s talk about the definition Wet-Lip Look first. It’s simply what it sounds like. They’re lips that are so shiny and dewy that they look… wet and I’m about to tell you how to achieve one of the hottest new makeup trends that’s here to stay all summer long.

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate

Hydration is key. Are you drinking enough water all day long? If you are, I promise you that your lips are silently thanking you. If you’re dehydrated, then your lips can be more on the dryer side and who wants dry lips? I don’t know about you, but if I don’t drink enough water then my lips not only dry out and crack, but they ache and you can only apply chapstick so many times in a day. If you are prone to forget about drinking enough water, then there are plenty of IPhone and Android apps that you can get which allow you to set reminders to drink water. I use these everyday and it helps me stay on track with my water intake. Try out My Water: Daily Drink Tracker, Water Reminder-  Daily Tracker or Drink Water Reminder N Tracker. If you don’t want an extra app on your phone, just make sure to bring a water with you everywhere you go. Not only does hydrating keep your lips healthy, but your overall health as well, and let’s be real, you only have one body and you must take care of it the best you can.

Want a water bottle that beeps or reminds you when to take a sip of water? Check out the ICEWATER 3-in-1 Smart Water Bottle. It glows to remind you to stay hydrated. It’s BPA free, has a built in battery, is water resistant and you can get it at Amazon for only $19.99.

Want to add more hydration to your lips? Use lip balm.

If you’re worried about your lips not being hydrated enough or you just want to protect them from the sun, then using lip balm might just be another step that you have to take. Dry air, cold temperatures in the winter and wind can all make our lips dry and chapped and lip balm adds another layer of protection. Before you add anything to your lips, make sure you let the lip balm set for a few minutes that way it hydrates them first.

Check out Burt’s Bees, Beeswax Lip Balm. The 4-pack is $11.99.

Don’t want to use lip balm? Use Lip Butter or Lip Mask

Are you not a fan of lip balm because you feel like you have to apply and reapply it all day long? If so, use a lip butter or lip mask instead. Wear the lip mask the night before you’re about to go for your Wet-Lip Look that way your lips are hydrated more than ever before.

Use your favorite summer lip color

Some of the hottest lip colors that are in this summer are Ruby Red, Nude, Red Wine, Muted Plum, and anything bright and neon. When going for the Wet-Lip Look, you might want to try the “popsicle” trend. This look gives a minimal and soft non lipstick look all while with an ombre effect to your lips. It’s perfect for summer days while you’re hanging out by the pool or going on an adventure in the city with a loved one. All you do is blend the darker shade of lipstick in the middle of lips and blend the lighter shade in the corners. If you don’t want to use the “popsicle” trend, then that is perfectly fine. Use your favorite color and cover those lips!

Check out Urban Decay’s, Vice Hydrating Lipstick. The color is Hollyweird – Bright Punk Pink. Get it at Sephora for $19.00.

If you want something more on the pricier side, try Tom Ford’s Lip Color Lipstick in the color 69 Night Mauve – Rich Cool Berry. Price: $58.00.

Lastly, apply a non-sticky gloss

I may not have always been a makeup kind of gal, but I have worn my fair share of gloss. I prefer it because it’s easier to take off than your everyday lipstick and the light shades of pink that I like give me a no-makeup kind of feel. After you’ve applied your lipstick, make sure to add the finale touch of applying a gloss. You don’t want anything sticky or messy either because it will just smudge the lipstick that you recently applied and most of all, it’s just uncomfortable if you have globs of lipstick on your lips. You can either use a matching lip gloss or switch it up and use a color that compliments. Whichever you prefer!
