Guide To Admitted Students Day At Long Island University Brooklyn

Well, you got accepted into your dream college, congratulations! You went through the whole process during orientation, including what you are going to be expected of for the next four years. Now that you are an admitted student at Long Island University Brooklyn, there are a handful of steps you need to get through before you start. So, here are my top five tips on what to keep in mind for your first year of college as you attend admitted students day.

1. Be prepared for anything.

The first day isn’t so bad because it is mostly just a lot of mandatory information thrown at your from your professor(s). You don’t have to bring everything you think you might need with you, like every single one of your books for example, that day. However, I would be prepared and pack your student ID, your class schedule so you won’t be lost on the first day and a notebook with folders for those long syllabuses.

2. Introduce yourself to your advisor.

It is important to get to know your advisor as soon as possible. Meeting with your advisor is a great way to keep them  updated on how your classes are going, your grades, and your goals and schedule. The more they know of you, the more they will be able to help you later.

3. Introduce yourself to the students in your classes.

Don’t be shy, everyone is in the same position as you! The first day is always going to be a little hectic for some students, but it is a good idea to be as outgoing and friendly as possible. Especially when it comes time to split up into partners or when you need to borrow a pen!

4. Get to know your professors.

It’s obviously smart to introduce yourself to your professors as well as your advisors! In case you need help later on, they will know who you are better. If you don’t feel like talking to them in front of everybody or you don’t have time between classes, it doesn’t hurt to send them an email introducing yourself.

5. Keep yourself organized.

I always keep my actions in check in terms of how organized I am. With so much going on for each student, many students tend to forget some assignments and deadlines. We’re only human! I try to make it a habit to stay as organized as possible. Write everything down in a planner and plan ahead for the next day before you go to sleep. Doing a little bit each day and keeping up with your organization means no cramming and procrastination later on!
