Fourth Of July Drinks To Get Your Buzz On

We all love a good Fourth of July celebration and what would a good Fourth of July celebration be without some amazing food and great Fourth of July drinks. Independence Day is full of red, white, and blue and so are these boozy cocktails. You will be celebrating all things America while sitting back and sipping on one, or two, of these cool drinks. Nice and refreshing for the hot summer heat and drinks for every alcohol preference, here are 8 Fourth of July drinks to get your buzz on during your Independence Day barbeque and while your watching fireworks of the same colors to round out the night.

1. Blueberry Lemonade Margarita 

For those looking for a nice tequila-based drink this summer holiday, the blueberry lemonade margarita is the Fourth of July drink for you. Perfectly refreshing, this margarita combines lemon and blueberry flavors to give you a nice buzz on a Fourth of July day. 

For the syrup:

  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup blueberries 
  • Zest of 1/2 lime

For the margarita:

  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 1 lemon, cut into wedges
  • 8 ounces tequila
  • 4 ounces triple sec
  • 1 cup lemonade 
  • Ice

In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar and water and stir until sugar has dissolved. Add blueberries and lime zest and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until blueberries have burst, about 5 minutes. Let cool for 10 minutes, then strain the mixture into a clean jar. On a small plate, stir together sugar and salt. Rim each mason jar with a lemon wedge, then dip in sugar and salt mixture. Divide tequila, triple sec, and lemonade between four glasses. Fill each glass with ice then top with blueberry syrup. Garnish with a lemon wedge to serve.

2. Watermelon Sangria 

If you want a sangria that is just amped up in flavor a bit, try this watermelon sangria as your Fourth of July drink. Easy to make and even easier to drink, this sangria is cool and refreshing for those hot July days. It’s like eating a piece of watermelon with a little bit of alcohol; what more could you ask for in a Fourth of July drink?

  • 4 cups cubed watermelon
  • 1 750-ml. bottle Moscato
  • 1 cup rum
  • Juice of 4 limes
  • Zest of two limes
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Lime slices for garnish

In a blender combine watermelon, Moscato, rum, lime juice and zest, sugar, and blend until smooth. Garnish glasses with lime slices and serve.

3. Drunk Jack Frosties 

The perfect Fourth of July drink for anyone who enjoys champagne and a frozen treat. All blue but not lacking in the red, white, and blue spirit, this cocktail will keep you nice and cool and nice and buzzed during all of your Independence Day festivities. Make sure to drink them before they melt! 

  • 1 cup vodka
  • 1 cup champagne
  • 1/2 cup Blue Curacao
  • 1/2 cup lemonade
  • 3 cups ice
  • Lemon wedge
  • White sanding sugar

In a blender, combine vodka, champagne, Blue Curacao, lemonade, and ice. Blend until combined. Run a lemon wedge around the rim of each glass then dip in sanding sugar. Pour the frosties into rimmed glasses and serve immediately.

4. Rocket Jello Shots 

It wouldn’t be right to have a Fourth of July without jello shots. They’re easy to make and they’re also easy to eat. What makes these jello shots the perfect Fourth of July drink is that they are layered to give you that American flag effect. Each layer is a different flavor and a different color of jello, creating that red, white, and blue we all know so well when it comes to celebrating the fourth each year.  

Blue Layer

  • 1 box instant blueberry jello
  • 1/2 cup water, boiled
  • 1/2 cup vodka

  • 1/2 cup water, boiled
  • 1/2 cup vodka

White Layer

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 envelope gelatin
  • 1/2 cup vodka
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

In a small bowl, add boiling water and berry jello and mix until completely dissolved. Stir in vodka. In a separate bowl, repeat the process with cherry jello. Let both mixtures cool. In a medium bowl, sprinkle gelatin over 1/4 cup of the milk. In a small saucepan over medium heat, bring the remaining 3/4 cup of milk to a simmer. Turn off heat then stir in sugar, vanilla, and vodka. Pour the heated mixture over plain gelatin mixture and stir until gelatin is completely dissolved. Let cool for 10 minutes. Lightly spray 20 two-ounce plastic shot glasses with cooking spray. Spoon about 1 tablespoon berry jello mix into each. Refrigerate until set but not completely firm, about 15 minutes. Top with about 1 tablespoon white gelatin mixture. Refrigerate until set, about 10 minutes. Cover with about 1 tablespoon cherry jello mixture. Refrigerate until firm, about 2 hours. Add sparkler candle for dramatic firework effect.

5. Blackberry Mojito 

If you are a rum person and you love mojitos then this is the Fourth of July drink for you. Mojitos are always super refreshing and this red and blue mojito is sure to keep you nice and cool during your Fourth of July festivities. The blackberries give this mojito a nice flavor lift, complimenting the mint and lime that we all associate with a classic mojito. 

  • 4 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup seltzer water
  • 1/4 cup rum
  • 12 blackberries
  • 12 large mint leaves
  • 6 to 8 ice cubes

Muddle blackberries, mint leaves, sugar, lemon juice, and lime juice in a tall glass. Add seltzer. Add rum. Add ice. Stir well and serve.

6. Red, White, and Boozy

If you’re a vodka drinker and vodka cranberry is your drink of choice, then you definitely can’t go wrong with this Fourth of July drink. It’s a vodka cranberry with a little carbonation; a classic drink but turned up a notch to celebrate Independence Day. When you pour the sparkling water, there should be two distinct layers in your glass giving you the red and white, then the blueberries add the blue effect. This might be my Fourth of July drink choice this year. 

  • 1 1/2 ounces vodka
  • 3 ounces sparkling water
  • 2 ounces cranberry juice
  • Blueberries to garnish

Add vodka and cranberry juice to a glass with ice. Slowly pour sparkling water for a layering effect. Drop in a few blueberries and enjoy.

7. Blueberry Coconut Sparkler 

For those of you looking for something a little more tropical, this Blueberry Coconut Sparkler is the Fourth of July drink that you should be making this year. The combination of blueberry and coconut enhances that feeling of summer and gives you the buzz you’re looking for during a summer celebration. 

  • 3 cups fresh blueberries
  • 3 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup coconut rum
  • 2 1/2 cups ginger ale
  • Ice 
  • Coconut flakes for garnish 

Muddle the blueberries in the bottom of a medium bowl. Add the lemon juice and coconut rum; stir well until combined. Using a fine mesh strainer, strain the mixture and discard the blueberry skins. Add the ginger ale and gently stir until combined. Garnish rims of glasses with coconut flakes. Fill glasses with ice then add the cocktail.

8. Red, White, and Blue Wine Spritzer

Lastly, we have a drink that is suited for the wine drinkers at the Fourth of July celebration. This wine spritzer is the Fourth of July drink for those looking for a red, white, and blue-inspired cocktail but aren’t looking to drink any sort of hard liquor. This spritzer is cool, refreshing, and perfect to sip on as you celebrate America. 

  •  1 cup simple syrup
  • 1/2 cup fresh strawberries, sliced in half
  • 1/2 cup fresh blueberries
  • 1 bottle dry white wine
  • Club soda
  • Ice
  • Few sprigs of fresh mint

Fill pitcher with ice and top with berries (save some to place in glasses). Pour in the simple syrup and then wine until the pitcher is 3/4 full. Top off with club soda, stir, and serve in ice-filled glasses. Garnish with mint sprig.
