Food Subscription Boxes For People Who Hate Buying Groceries, But Love Cooking

Cooking is a fun experience full of experimentation and discovery. What’s not so fun about it? The errand of having to actually go out and buy the groceries beforehand. Not to mention the inevitable… when you forget to buy just one item on your list, but that item turns out to be the most crucial part of the recipe! Food subscription boxes are a great way to enjoy the cooking without the hassle of grocery shopping. With so many options, it can be hard to decipher where to start, but that’s where we come in!

1. HelloFresh

HelloFresh specializes in recipes that include healthy and fresh ingredients. They like to emphasize the “positivity that cooking and eating brings to people’s lives.” The perks for this one? You can choose what comes in your box weekly and portions are already measured out. This box averages out to $9.90 per serving. This is definitely one of the most popular food subscription boxes.

2. Blue Apron

I like to call Blue Apron a higher-class version of HelloFresh. Blue Apron touts its “chef-designed” recipes and “fresh, seasonal ingredients.” The reason I like to call it higher-class? It’ll run you a bit more money than HelloFresh, but they do have free shipping available on most of their subscriptions!

3. ButcherBox

As the name might suggest, this box is all about MEAT! This is a great one to invest in if you love meat from grass-fed and finished, free-range, and no antibiotic-pumped animals but find yourself a little confused trying to compare the different types, sizes, and prices at the grocery store. With all things meat, there will be a considerable price, though. This subscription weighs in at $129 per box (which they claim is enough for about 20-30 meals).

4. Home Chef

This subscription is all about the cook who just knows the basics. If you’re not sure about what all those fancy cooking terms are but you can at least make a decent meal for your friends and family, this box is for you. They specialize in simple, easy-to-follow recipes. Their lunch options start at $7.99 per serving.

5. Purple Carrot

This box is about the vegans! They deliver an entirely plant-based box. So, whether you’re trying to just eat healthier or you have a plant-lover in your house, you have to order this box! Their plan starts at $12 per plate ($72/week).

6. Plated

This subscription is arguably worth the most for your money for the amount of food you get. It offers a lot of flexibility with its plan, allowing buyers to choose how many nights and servings they receive as well as being able to mix and match recipes! Their plans start at $9.95 per serving, with shipping free for orders over $60 dollars. This is one of the best food subscription boxes to order!

7. Gobble

Everyone loves a quick dinner! Gobble’s focus is dinner in 15 minutes or less. Meals for Gobble start at $11.99.

8. Ocean Box

Raise your glass for the seafood lovers because this box is all about them. Ocean Box specializes in delivering fresh, sustainable seafood right to your door! Their small box starts at $42 per week (but they have deals going all the time)!

9. Chef’d

Chef’d undoubtedly have the best assortment of food options of this entire list. They offer vegetarian options, low-carb, meat-friendly, and much more for anyone’s very specific food tastes! When signing up you receive $10 off your first order, and you might need it. Their single meals (normally portioned for 2-4 people) on average cost anywhere from $19 to $40.
