The city Mississauga, Ontario might be the younger and less popular sister of the city of Toronto. But she is quickly developing and will soon take over as the food and culture capital of Canada one new condo development and restaurant opening at a time.  Here is a list of the 10 food places you need to check out next time you head down to Mississauga to get away from the busy city of Toronto.

1. Sushi Omigoto

Sushi Omigoto is a new restaurant located in Mississauga’s own china town. the non-all-you-can-eat but rather ala carte menu is elegant and sophisticated yet still very affordable.  A filling meal including a drink would average $20 leaving room in your wallet if you fancy dessert following your meal.

The must-try item on this menu is The “Las Vegas Roll” as it is served on a flaming flatter so get out your phones and capture it for your Instagram story!

2. The Cold Pressery

Mississauga’s own fully vegan cafe and eatery! the Cold Pressery caters to plant-based diets and offers sandwiches, lattes, smoothies, even vegan donuts! to satisfy any craving. The design of the place is also very welcoming and they offer free wifi making it the perfect vegan-friendly study cafe.

The must-try item on this menu is the “Vegan Rueben” made with soy-based protein that perfectly resembles the real thing!

3. Roman Zaman

Mississauga holds one of the highest middle-eastern populations in Canada, and thus it holds an array of middle eastern cuisine restaurants. One of the most authentic and aesthetically pleasing is Roman Zaman which presents its food in a Mediterranean-Middle Eastern fusion that would have you thinking you’re vacationing in Morocco.

The must-try on this menu is the “Sausage in Pomegranate Molasses” exhibiting the traditional mix of salty and sweet when it comes to this cuisine.

4. Kinton Ramen

The super successful ramen restaurant that has branches in Japan, Korea, and USA has recently opened a new location right in the heart of Mississauga. This restaurant offers a traditional and modern twist in design but keeps it authentic when it comes to the food.

The must-try item on this menu is the “Karaage Shoyu Ramen” located on their “special menu” and only served on Mondays! featuring deep fried chicken in pork shoyu broth.

5.  Cagney’s Steakhouse and Wine Bar

Looking for an upscale restaurant for a special evening in Mississauga?  Then head to the neighborhood of Streetsville where Cagney’s is located. With lush seating and dimmed, slightly hued lighting it is the perfect place for a romantic date or a gathering of people for a celebration.  While this is a steakhouse the must-try item on this menu is the “Salmon Supreme Dinner” it is one of the most well seasoned and flakey salon filet’s prepared.

6. Kravingz

This all-day brunch restaurant is located in the Port Credit area of Mississauga. It is a dainty little place that takes no reservations so you better get their early to avoid the long wait line! However, the food is superb and so worth the wait.

The must-try item on this menu is their twist on classic Eggs Benedict the “The Polski Benny” the substitutes the English muffin with a potato Placki that is to die for.

7. La Carnita

The popular Mexican themed restaurant that holds three locations in Toronto has just expanded to Mississauga. La Carnita is the featured restaurant in Mississauga’s new “Food District” located within the Square One shopping center. This restaurant is fun and bold and features exposed brick and natural sunlight.

The must-try item on this menu is the “Tuna Ceviche Tostada” it has a hint of spice plus the spike of the lime it is absolutely delicious.

8. Scaddabush

This Italian kitchen is located right by the popular shopping center, Square one and by the Cineplex movie theatre making it the perfect place for dinner-and-a-movie type of date!

The name Scaddabush translates to “a little bit of this and a little bit of that” is a large yet very cozy and welcoming Italian restaurant. At night the lights are dimmed and they light up real candles all around the restaurant!

The must-try item on the menu is the “Fresh Mozzarella” made to order and you can even watch yours get made by the chef!

9. Haze Lounge

A shisha bar slash restaurant that offers up comfort food in a relaxing lounge atmosphere and contains an area with a more formal dining atmosphere. Enjoy your food alongside your hooka and feel like a boss.
