7 First Date Tips You Need To Know

First dates can be confusing and terrifying. Here you are with this person you don’t know anything about; your mission is to find out what this person likes and hope they like you and vice versa after all is said and done. As long as you stick to these 7 first date tips, everything will go just fine.

Choose An Activity That Allows Conversation

If you’re only on the date just for some free food then this article isn’t for you. However, if you’re on the date to get to know someone you have to choose an activity where you and your date can talk to each other. Dinner is always nice, or drinks at a cafe. These activities make it easy fo you to speak to your date and get to know them. It will be kind of hard to find out what he thinks of the college admissions bribery scandal when you’re in the movie theater watching SpiderMan: Into the Spider-Verse.

Be Yourself

Of all the first date tips, this one is the most important one to adhere to. I know this is really cliche but you have to be yourself. Portraying someone else would simply be disastrous.

Ask Questions

Asking questions is important on a first date; it shows you are curious about your date and you are interested in learning more about them. However, you shouldn’t play 20 questions it can get exhausting. I know it’s a quick way to get to know someone, but in a way it isn’t. Think about it, let’s say you ask them what their favorite book is, they say “One of Us Is Lying” and then they proceed to ask you a question, you really didn’t get to know them. You don’t know why they love that book so why even ask that question when the point was to get to know the things your date likes?

Avoid Controversial Topics

You definitely shouldn’t talk about controversial topics like religion, abortion, politics, etc. on the first date. I know theres a lot to all of those topics that you can speak on but it’s the first date. What if your date has opposing views, I don’t think you want to have a full on debate in the middle of The Cheesecake Factory.

Be Aware Of Red Flags

This is something I didn’t listen to when it came to a few guys I was dealing with. One guy, we’ll call him D*****bag, was insane. On our first couple of dates I ignored it when he had road rage and almost crashed into another car. I also ignored it when he got into my face and screamed at the top of his lungs a couple dates later. Another guy, let’s call him Garbage Pail, was pretty much going nowhere in life. I should have known that he had no ambition from the very first date. It happens. I was naive back then but I know what the red flags are now, thank God.

Don’t Get Drunk

Let’s be honest, you don’t know this person. They could easily take advantage of you in your altered state. Even if that isn’t their intention, getting wasted on the first date is just not a good look at all.

Know The Date Won’t Be Perfect

Unfortunately, not every first date will be a hit. A lot of times, they turn out disastrous. However, you have to know that that’s okay. Take pride in the fact that you put yourself out there and enjoyed your time with this person.
