First Date Etiquette Every Girl Should Know

When heading off to that first date, make sure you are on your best behavior. Manners are something that everyone should be brushed up on to make the best first impression. There is a certain etiquette that should be followed when you are ready to head off for that first outing. Make sure you are prepared by giving this list a read!

Be A Participant In The Plans

There is something really sexy about a partner having a date all planned out, from the time they pick you up to the place you are going. However, sometimes your date wants you input on the outing; this doesn’t always mean they didn’t think about it beforehand but they want to take you somewhere you will enjoy. Actively contributing ideas of what you’d enjoy isn’t a bad thing; suggest a couple of things if they ask.

Be On Time

You don’t have to arrive extremely early, but respecting your dates time is some etiquette gold. Don’t leave them to sit alone, waiting for you; no one likes that and no one thinks it’s cute. It’s selfish. If you’re going to be late, let them know.

Hold Off On Judgements

Meeting new people means you are going to run into things you are not experienced in or that you may not hold a particular interest in. First date etiquette is to hold your judgement to yourself, as long as its innocent and not making you uncomfortable. If they are into different hobbies or a job that you have no idea about, let them explain because it’s a part of them. You might have sit through some golf stories, but give it a chance.

Be Honest In What You Want

Don’t pretend that you are looking for the same things they are not. This is road that leads down to a breakup that usually isn’t pretty. You don’t have to talk about how many kids you want and their names, but explain if you are possibly looking for something more serious or casual. You will thank yourself later.

Be The Best Version Of Yourself

Being yourself on a date is the best first date etiquette to follow. The whole point of a date is to see if you fit with the other person; if you are not being yourself than you are wasting their time. Being the best version means setting yourself up for success. Dress up in a way that shows how gorgeous you are, make sure your makeup (if you wear it) reflects your natural beauty. Don’t roll off the couch and head over to your date, but try not to over do it as well; find that sweet spot.

Dressing For The Date

This comes with knowing where you are headed, but dress appropriately for where you guys are headed. If you guys are going out for a drink at night, wear that cute little black dress. But don’t wear that little black dress if you are going mini golfing. Dressing for the date means that you are comfortable and will let you give your attention to your date rather than worrying about being over or under dressed.

Stay Off Your Phone

Put your phone away. Put it in your purse, in your pocket, drop kick it off a bridge if that helps you stay off it. There is literally nothing that says you are not important than sitting across someone who has their damn phone glued to their hands. Put it away.

Ask Questions About Themselves

This is one of the best etiquette advice for the first date. If you pay attention and ask questions about themselves, you can literally do no wrong. You get to learn a lot about your date and takes the pressure off them to come up with all the topics. They will relax because, hopefully, answering questions about themselves should be easy and you can asks the questions you are most interested in. It’s also polite to make sure that the conversation is equally on them as it is on you.

Going Dutch

Don’t just pretend to go for you wallet or stare at them across the table when the check comes. Be prepared to pay for your half; have cash, Venmo up, or your card out. A date isn’t a free meal. If they offer to pay, that is a move that is meant to be a kind gesture and it is up to you whether you are comfortable with them paying or not.

Having An Exit Strategy

If you ever feel uncomfortable at all during your date, always have an exit strategy. Have a friend on standby to come get you, grab the attention of the bartender, ask the waiter for help. If you are feeling worried for your safety, it is first date etiquette to get the hell out of there. There is no shame in leaving a situation where you feel worried.

Make sure to give this list a read next time you are preparing for a first date to make sure your first date etiquette is up to speed. Is there something that I missed on proper etiquette for a first date? Let us know in the comments below.
