10 90s Films You Need To Watch For Your Next Movie Night

Ah, the 90s. A time of questionable haircuts, baggy jeans, tight skirts, slinkies, butterfly clips, boy bands and girl bands. If you’re a fan of the 90s for its charm or the decade just makes you feel nostalgic, then you need this list of 10 90s films that you can queue up for you next movie night!

1. Pretty Woman (1990)

How can we go past this Julia Roberts and Richard Gere Cinderella-like classic? Julia Roberts plays the unlikely heroine Vivian, a prostitute who does not believe in kissing her clients ‘on the mouth’. When she meets Richard Gere’s character Edward, she begins to question her principles and starts to develop feelings for him. A must-see if you love 90s films!

2. 10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

Ah, a cult teen classic. What many fans may not realise is that this beloved teen film is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew. This movie is everything you expect a teen comedy to have – romance, laughs, some teen angst, rivalry, young Joseph Gordon Levitt and of course a beautifully young and angelic Heath Ledger. You’ll thank us later with this one.

3. Clueless (1998)

Another cult teen classic! And this one is an adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic novel Emma. Alicia Silverstone, who plays Cher, can’t help but plant her nose in everyone’s business. Especially when it comes to romance, often neglecting people’s feelings. A classic spoilt-rich-girl makeover story – this one is sure to keep you laughing and entertained.

4. Sleepless in Seattle (1993)

If you’re looking for a sweet romantic comedy to watch for your date night, then this classic with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks is a wonderful option. Meg Ryan’s character falls in love with the idea of Tom Hanks character, and searches for him everywhere.

5. The Parent Trap (1998)

Remember cute little Lindsay Lohan? In this remake of the 1961 film of the same name, two identical young girls meet at summer camp and discover they both have the same parents despite having never met before. With many classic humorous lines and entertaining scenes, this Disney classic is sure to keep you laughing!

6. Fools Rush In (1997)

Here’s one you may not have ever seen before. Fools Rush In tells the story of two lovers who meet by chance one night (Matthew Perry from TV series Friends and Salma Hayek) and almost never see each other again. A few months later Hayek’s character comes back to tell Perry’s character she’s fallen pregnant. Lots of laughs and a very cute unfolding story!

8. She’s All That (1999)

What’s cuter than Freddie Prinze Jr and Paul Walker in a film together? An even cuter storyline of this dorky, unpopular artsy high school girl Laney, suddenly being noticed by big man on campus Zack. But in true 90s fashion, the notion came from a bet that Zack can turn any girl into the Prom Queen. What this classic teen film unfold for a feel-good ending.

9. Pleasantville (1998)

Here’s a young Reese Witherspoon, Tobey Maguire and Paul Walker in a very artistic film. Pleasantville tells the story of two teens who are accidentally transported into a 1950s black-and-white TV show. In this show, everything is black-and-white, and no one questions anything that happens. With some meddling, people start to turn into colour! An interesting story with an artistic twist!

10. Lassie (1994)

A beautiful tale of a collie changing the lives of an inner-city family moving to a small country town in Virginia. The film tells the story from the perspective of young boy Matt, who can’t seem to think of anything other than going back to the city upon arriving on a farm. But, with the help of their new member of the family, Matt sees the perks of country life and the value of friendship. A very cute family-friendly 90s film.
