Everything You Need To Make A Tumblr Goals Dorm Room

Finally it’s time for you to move into your dorm! You want it to be cute and stylish and a place you’re happy to go to after class. Basically, you want it to be Tumblr Goals. To help you make that happen, here’s a list of everything you need to make a Tumblr Goals dorm room.

A Solid Color Scheme

Okay, so this isn’t an item, but it’s definitely vital! Picking a color scheme (with the help of your roommate, of course) will help you make the whole room look cohesive. An organized room is great, but it’s still bound to look messy if everything’s a different color and nothing goes together. Pinterest is a great place to find color schemes. Look through a bunch of different room ideas and save the ones that you are drawn to. With any luck, you and your roommate can settle on one that you both love! It’ll also be easier to shop when you know what colors you’re looking for so you’re not tempted to buy every cute throw pillow you see.

A Cute Comforter

In all honesty, the most important thing in your dorm room is your bed. It’s where you’re going to spend most of your time when you’re in your room, and you want it to be comfortable. But that doesn’t mean it can’t also be super cute! The comforter you choose is important because it’s a big part of the room. The biggest thing to look for is a comforter that’s Twin XL, because that’s the size of most dorm room beds. Make sure you check that this is the right size for your school! You can pick something neutral if you think your color scheme’s likely to change in your next dorm, or pick something in your color scheme if it’s a color you love. Or you can go for something patterned like the option featured below for some visual interest!

Throw Pillows

Your bed in your dorm room will function both as a bed and as your couch. When your friends are over hanging out, you’ll want it to be super comfy for a few of you to sit on. It’s a good idea to have a few throw pillows on your bed for friends to use when they’re over. You’ll also find that throw pillows really quickly make your dorm room feel more homey. It’s a nice touch to really pull together your bed area!

A Soft Blanket

Your comforter is all well and good, but you’re definitely going to want a good blanket around as well. Folding it and placing it on the bottom of your bed is a great finishing touch that will make your room look more pulled together. Plus, it gives you an option for when it’s too warm for your comforter or when you need to add another layer!

Polaroid Pictures

You’re sure to make a ton of great memories at college, and you’re bound to have a bunch of photos from high school you want to hang up to be reminded of those good times. Polaroid pictures are a really cute way to do this because they don’t need a frame and they look so vintage and stylish. If you’re hoping to take those pictures at college, a Polaroid camera is a great option. You might also look into a photo printer instead that will print the photos from your phone so you don’t have to worry about taking a bad photo and wasting film.

A Tapestry

Most dorm rooms come with boring beige walls. Sometimes they’re cinderblock, sometimes they’re that weird eggshell paint finish. Either way, they’re not cute. Cover that ugly wall and add a lot of visual interest by hanging a tapestry on the wall. A tapestry will cover a large section of the wall for less money than big posters, and adds another texture to the room. They come in tons of styles so you’re sure to find something that fits your style. You can find ones that have nature scenes like the one below, or you can find tapestries with quotes or cute illustrations. Real

Wall Art

Of course, even with a tapestry you’re sure to have plenty of wall space to decorate. Don’t overdo it, but hanging things on the wall is a surefire way to transform your dorm room into a more homey place. There’s something about bare walls that makes it feel like it’s just not your space. You can totally get posters or art at places like Target or Bed, Bath, and Beyond, or you can download some printables off Etsy and get them printed at your local CVS! Usually that will end up being cheaper and they have a wider selection that big box stores. Plus, you’re supporting independent artists! Or you can totally DIY this and make art for your wall, or get you friends to help you out! You could trade handmade art so you have something to remind you of your friends while you’re away a college.

Twinkly Lights

No dorm is complete without twinkly lights! Your school might not allow these in dorm rooms because they can be a fire hazard, so make sure you check before you hang yours up. And even if you are allowed, make sure you don’t hang them next to things that are easily flammable and you don’t leave them on when you’re out or when you sleep! These instantly add to the atmosphere of your dorm and make it feel a lot more cozy. There’s nothing like curling up in bed with just the twinkly lights on and watching a good movie! The ones featured below use batteries so you don’t have to waste a precious outlet, plus they have a remote so you don’t have to get up to turn them on and off!
