10 Classy Looks For A Winter Wedding

With the company, romance, and atmosphere, it’s no secret that weddings are some of the best events of our lives (even just attending them as guests). And there isn’t any discrimination when it comes to the weather- come rain or shine, those two are getting hitched! But sometimes it’s a bit easier to decipher what to wear to a breemayzy summer wedding than a chilly, rustic winter one. But have no fear! We’ve picked out ten timeless, yet trendy ensembles that we’re sure a gal like you could rock. Here are 10 classy looks for a winter wedding.

1. Black Tulle

Good news: you don’t have to channel any eerie Black Swan vibes to wow in a tulle, ballerina-inspired skirt. Simply pick our a formal shirt with longer sleeves, pull a layered tulle skirt over, and step into your favorite pumps for a night of graceful dancing (well, as graceful as possible)! We’re falling for black tulle especially because it’s mysterious, elegant, and gives the illusion of being pricier while barely dipping into your Starbucks budget. Look out for a tulle skirt of your own at Forever 21 or H&M, or even make your own by buying a few yards at your local craft store and following a simple Pinterest tutorial. Bravo!

2. Vibrant A-Line

Any and all looks that radiate the joy and excitement of a winter wedding (even from a guest’s perspective) are great choices. We personally are drawn to colorful A-line skirts because they’re ultra-flattering, effortlessly classic, and superbly uplifting. Plus, you can layer an A-line with tights and a woolen sweater without taking away from the chic factor (just make sure to wear nice shoes and a great makeup look). If you invest in a high-quality skirt from a store like JCrew, you can be assured that it’ll pay itself off in no time- this skirt will prove perfect for spring and summer weddings next year (minus the tights).

3. Sophisticated Pantsuit

Maybe you’re a bit of a trendsetter, or maybe you’d just rather dance in something besides a skirt. If this is how you feel, you’re in luck, because pantsuits are just as trendy as ever, and are a great decision for your upcoming wedding. Look out for a festive color like cranberry, and try finding similar lip or nail shades to match. As for the accessories portion, the choice is completely up to you, although you can never go wrong with some gold earrings or an embroidered shawl for when it gets chilly.

4. Long And Floral

Why should spring fashion get all the flowers? By adding a pretty floral print to a long dark dress like the one below, you’ll radiate femininity, growth, and hope, all of which are ideal themes for a wedding. If you go for a cinched waist, three quarter-length sleeves (aka long sleeves that stop just a few inches beyond your elbows), then you’ll look wonderful without even trying (or purchasing tight shape wear). Since this look takes a more modern, romantic route (as opposed to a timeless one), try pairing it with a voluminous braid or fishtail, some artistic earrings, and a sparkly clutch bag. Gorgeous!

5. Faux Fur Accent

Fur has nearly always been an elegant choice for formal events like weddings, and nowadays you can look just as exquisite as those ladies in years past without putting any foxes in harm’s way! As a general rule, classic goes best with classic, so try on a few retro-inspired dresses (with a tailored waist and flared hip), lipstick, and old Hollywood waves. Then, put on your cozy faux fur scarf or coat. Who invited Grace Kelly to the wedding?

6. Metallic Pleated Skirt

What’s bound to bring out our winter glow? A glimmering pleated skirt in a flattering metallic shade (such as champagne). The pleats on this piece are elongating (as the vertical lines give the illusion of you being taller) and nostalgic (a bit like the costumes of the roaring 20’s), which will be perfect for striking up conversation in between dances (“Can you believe there was a time when alcohol was completely illegal?”…). This type of skirt pairs great with textured, fluffy coats and detailed long-sleeved blouses, so no winter chills can interfere with your wedding fun. A toast to you, oh fashionable one!

7. Detailed Lace Sheath Dress

While we’ve been giving some special attention to fit-and-flare styles, a pretty sheath dress can be just as lovely. For us, the perfect winter sheath hits just above the calf (about 5-6 inches below the knee), has cap sleeves or is almost sleeveless, and incorporates beautiful details like lace or embroidered flowers. We would personally get the dress below in a heartbeat because we love the fit, the plum shade is perfect for winter, and the embossment adds so much interest that you hardly have to do anything with your shoes or hair (this particular model is rocking some nude pumps and a messy bun).

8. Red And Ravishing

Not afraid to stand out? Look for a silk (or satin) true red dress with lots of movement and sheen. Since the color is so gorgeous on its own, you won’t need to worry about showing skin (and compromising your warmth) beyond a little bit of leg (which can be elevated with a kitten heel). Still have that leopard-print clutch or handbag from fall? That’ll go perfectly with this look, since both red and leopard print are equally vintage and vogue.

9. Golden Yellow Button-Down

Maybe you like to put modern twists (like a fedora) on wedding classics like a dress. Maybe the wedding you’re attending is a bit more casual. Maybe you just love yellow. Whatever your reason, a versatile yellow button-down dress is perfect for you. We love warmer shades of yellow (think more goldenrod and less chiffon yellow) because they nicely contrast the cooler natural shades of winter. Add your favorite shoes (maybe even some strappy ones), a pretty handbag, and a brilliant smile and you’re good to go!

10. Emerald Beauty

We could go on forever about how many fits look fantastic in a pigmented emerald green, but we’ll leave that up to you (you’ve probably had your fair share of fit tips). All we can say is that any dress in this shade (preferably a little longer) with a sparkly statement necklace, some marvelous kicks, and a winning attitude will get your more than a couple of glances from the groomsmen.
