It’s that time of year again for summer time Chi! Whether you are a local or touring Chicago for the first time, there are always new and exciting activities and places to try out in the city. From rooftop bars to concerts, here are a few fun Chicago activities to do this summer.
Navy Pier is a must when planning Chicago activities for the first time. There are plenty of things to do such as taking a ride on the Ferris wheel (one of the largest in the world), boat rides (highly recommend the speed boats especially when it is a hot summer day), or simply grabbing a Chicago-style hotdog while enjoying the view of Lake Michigan! Navy Pier also has one of the most beautiful firework shows during 4th of July!
This is always a fun Chicago activity to try out in the city during the summer…make sure you go with an appetite though! From July 10-14 this summer, the Taste of Chicago festival is where people come out to try food of all nationalities; Greek, Polish, Indian etc that are accessed through food trucks and stands. One can try samples of all kinds of food through pre-paid tickets! Held in Grant Park, the festival also hold non-food related activities such as like music and performances you can enjoy!
Lollapalooza is an amazing Chicago activity; its an annual four-day music festival held in Grant Park! Very popular among people in their teens and twenties, this concert festival includes EDM, punk rock, hip hop, indie, and alternative rock styles of music. The festival hosts a lot of pop artists as well! It is usually held in August, this year it will be from August 1st-4th. It is definitely a great summer activity and perfect opportunity to rock out that sexy festival outfit!
Get that summer bod ready for Chi this summer! North Avenue beach is definitely the spot for enjoying the rays, catching a swim in the lake, and even for going to beach parties! North Ave always hosts all kinds of events from dance parties to wine tasting, crawls and other Chicago activities. It is always a fun place to go to during the summer. This year there is a 90’s party hosted on June 29th so get ready to dance to a lot of throwbacks while looking cute in you bikini!
If you love animals, Lincoln Park Zoo is a great Chicago activity to do in the summer. Check your social media for events as well because the zoo hosts a lot of fun activities such as adult nights, 5k runs, wine fests, donut fests, picnics and brunches! Who doesn’t want to spend a day with animals and food?! It is also one of the largest zoos in Illinois and is free entry to visitors!
Summertime is the best for taking random trips into the city; sometimes simply to walk around, take Insta-worthy pics, and enjoy the scenery. Millennium Park is the iconic place to do Chicago activities. Go check out the famous Bean (technically called Cloud Gate), see a movie/concert at the outdoor Harris Theater, or take romantic walks to the hot dog stand as well haha!
Whether you are new to Chicago or a local, the city boat tours are hella fun to go on during the summer! The city provides all kinds of boat tours, the most famous one being the architectural tour. Learn all about the city’s history and background. You will learn that each building is unique and has a super interesting story behind it!
Last (but definitely not least), one of the best Chicago activities to do in Chi is going to rooftop bars and clubs! There are sooo many cute rooftops to check out in the city; whether you’re more into the casual ones or the fancier types. Some of the most popular ones include: Cindy’s, Z Bar, Cerise, Drumbar, The Up Room, London House, Upstairs at the Gwen, and IO at the Godfrey Hotel. A lot of those bars have their specialty drinks so go order yourself a fancy cocktail and enjoy the beautiful views of Chicago!
