Joining an organization on campus is one of the best and easiest ways to get involved. It is a great way to network and meet tons of new people. To make it even better, there are a lot of organizations that have the goal of making a difference. These are 10 organizations at York U that can help make a difference that you should definitely try out!
1. York First Aid
If you are looking for an organization centered around health care, York First Aid is a great spot to start. In this organization, you will get training and experience needed to become a First Responder. Once you have completed your work, you are able to volunteer and get experience in the field.
2. Kappa Sigma Fraternity – Tau Upsilon
Fraternities and Sororities is one of the best ways to be a part of an organization making a difference. Specifically, The Kappa Sigma looks to make a change on campus through both community service and philanthropy initiatives. Also, they are a social organization and throw social events to improve student life and make students more comfortable at York!
3. York Federation of Students
York Federation of Students looks at the structure of York itself, and provides service that suit students needs to create a great experience and help Go #REDPACT!
EnLIGHT has a focus on supporting and educating students. This organization isn’t location at York University, but students can easily become involved and it is worth it.
5. Jam For Justice
Jam For Justice is a mix of University students and CEGEP’s that want to bring justice through music. The organization has fundraisers for community centres and organizes events.
6. The United Nations Student Organization
If you are someone interested in politics, UNSO is definitely for you. The organization deals with the United Way. Some of the topics touched upon are global relations, environmental studies, and human rights.
7. Black Women Bridging Borders
Black Women Bridging Borders is another non-profit organization to be a part of. The purpose of the organization is to empower Black women through three programs; Advocacy, Mentorship and Academia. Black Women Bridging Boarders covers all aspect of what it means to be an African-American woman.
8. Women’s Mental Health Talks
This organization is perfect to make a change by standing up and talking about mental health. This organization helps women reach their full potential.
9. Moot Law Society
Moot Law Society is an academic and a social club that stimulates a court environment. Members have the opportunity to be a part of certain social events such as meet and greets, conferences and LSAT preparation opportunities.
Unicef is a well known organization that help children all around the world who are less fortunate. More specifically, children who are hungry, thirsty, less educated or are part of child labour. Unicef at York is part of Unicef Canada, which has a main goal of improving every-day-lives of children in more than 150 countries and territories.
