10 Of The Best Plants To Have In Your Apartment

Are you considering becoming a plant mom but don’t know where to start? Start with some of these plants that are great for apartments!

1. Aloe Vera

Everyone knows this plant, but did you know that it’s just so easy to grow? It grows best with minimal watering and fertilization and lots of sunlight. Aloe vera has a million uses from calming stomach pains to soothing sunburns! It also looks super beautiful and has a purplish tinge when it’s healthy. If you decide to grow your own aloe vera and want to use it in DIY beauty recipes (such as hair and face masks), make sure you buy one that specifically states it is a medicinal variety. If you want to eat it, make sure you buy one that states it can be eaten and be careful about what fertilizers you use on it and what soil you plant it in!

2. English Ivy

English ivy is the best plant for someone without a green thumb! It grows well in almost any environment and needs very little maintenance. It’s not as hands-off as aloe vera or any other kind of succulent, but it is fairly easy to keep alive. Just water it once a day until the soil is soaked and you’re good! If you miss a day or two and you see the leaves start to wilt, don’t worry! It revives itself with a little water!

3. Garlic

I don’t know about you, but garlic is a staple in all of my cooking! It’s nice to have a little on hand from the grocery store, but it’s even better to be able to grow it myself. Garlic is super easy to propagate – just peel a few cloves and toss them in water. In a week when the roots start to grow in, plant one clove in a jar of dirt and put it by the windowsill! You’ll have fresh garlic in no time!

4. Succulents

Succulents, like cacti, are really easy to keep alive. They’re so low maintenance that you don’t even need to water them every week! Stick to a watering schedule of about once every ten days to make sure you don’t overwater your plant children. If you like to travel, you can just leave your succulent for the time that you’re gone without any worries!

5. Maidenhair Fern

Depending on the climate of your area, maidenhair ferns can be super easy to grow. They’re called maidenhair ferns because their leaves are soft to the touch! They prefer moist climates where there’s a lot of water in the air and climates that stay at a stable temperature. Remember to water them every day because if you forget to water them two days in a row, they might dry out! If this happens, just chop off all the shoots – the roots are still intact and will grow new shoots within a few months!

6. Lavender

Lavender is the most lovely plant to have ever existed! You can grow it in your apartment with relative ease. Just remember to trim it back when it starts to get big as lavender will quickly die if it doesn’t have enough space for its roots.

7. Snake Plant

Don’t let the name scare you! These plants are super durable and can live in low sunlight areas quite easily! They also require very little watering and thrive in the confinement of a plant pot!

9. Rubber Plant

This plant is just so incredibly adorable that it had to be on this list! The rubber plant has the cutest little rounded out leaves that just scream “friend.” Of all your plant children, the rubber plant will soon become your favourite. It removes toxins from the air and can grow in very little sunlight!

10. Peace Lily

If you like flowers, this one is for you! The peace lily boasts beautiful pure white blooms that are sure to brighten any space! The peace lily can grow with little direct sunlight and you can even put one in a windowless room!
