Boulder not only home to many great restaurants, but its also home to one of the more popular party schools in the country. Many of the students at Boulder are night owls, so when the bars close at 2am and the parties die down, you’ll often find college students wandering the University Hill looking for some late night grub. While the late night options are limited, they taste amazing to anyone who has only consumed alcohol since 8pm, so with that, here are the 5 best late night food spots on University Hill.
1. Bova’s Market and Grill
There’s no debate that Bova’s Market and Grill is one of the best late night food spots on University Hill. Open until 2am every night, Bova’s has become a staple as a neighborhood hot spot for just about anything you need late night besides more alcohol. The friendly employees are welcoming and always happy to interact with you as they cook you up some good old fashioned drunk food. The experienced Bova’s veteran will almost always go for the Bova’s special (aka the Brandon); a grilled cheese with chicken fingers, buffalo sauce, and ranch. Some even add mozzarella sticks to it if they’re extra hungry. Despite all of the rumors that the plaza in which Bova’s is located is being turned into a hotel, Bova’s is still up and running, and always has a late night crowd.
2. Cosmos Pizza
Right around the corner from Bova’s Market and Grill is another one of the best late night food spots on University Hill, Cosmos Pizza. Cosmos is another Boulder staple that’s been around for a long time, and likely isn’t going anywhere. Cosmos is open until 2:30am every night, serves up one of the best, if not THE best slice of cheese pizza in Boulder, and does take out and delivery for their New York style thin crust pizza.
3. University Hill Market and Deli (Smelly Deli)
Like Bova’s, University Hill Market and Deli, aka Smelly Deli, has just about everything you’d need after a night out in Boulder. Not only is it one of the best late night spots on University Hill, but its open later than anywhere else! Open 24 hours, Smelly Deli serves up similar food to Bova’s, but its also very well known for its Middle Eastern Cuisine. Smelly Deli is always playing fun music and always has a tv on for late night entertainment while you scarf down your falafel wrap and mozzarella sticks.
4. Boss Lady Pizza
Across the street from University Hill Market and Deli is Boss Lady Pizza, another one of the best late night food spots on University Hill. Though they’re both open late, Boss Lady Pizza and Cosmos Pizza are virtually incomparable, as Boss Lady is well known for their unique and unorthodox pizza toppings, one of the fan favorites being the chicken and waffles pizza with maple syrup dribble. If that’s not sweet enough for you, they even have dessert pizzas that are actually quite amazing. The only downside to Boss Lady late at night is there’s almost always a long line, however the food is definitely worth the wait.
5. Gaku Ramen
Born in Burlington, Vermont, Gaku Ramen’s second location recently opened up in Boulder and already takes a spot on the list of late night food spots on University Hill. Gaku Ramen offers authentic Japanese ramen and cuisine very much unlike the 99 cent ramen packets that college students are used to. Though its not open as late as the other restaurants on this list, Gaku Ramen has insanely tasty food and a full bar, which makes it a great spot to stop at before or in between nightly festivities. The friendly staff will welcome you with open arms and the food and atmosphere will keep you there until it closes.
