The Best Halloween Ideas

Foliage, sweaters, and pumpkin-flavored everything…It’s definitely that time of year again! We all start thinking about our Halloween costumes weeks in advance, putting it together is half the fun. We want something creative but cute, and definitely not too expensive. Here are some of the best Halloween ideas!

1. Creative group costumes

Coordinating costumes with a bunch of your friends can get really creative and funny, like this group that went as a roller coaster!

Whether you want to grab 10 of your friends to do something big like the Thriller cast or the zombie Apocalypse; be something a little more low key like the 3 blind mice or the 3 musketeers; or choose from one of the countless duo ideas (Batman and Robin, Salt and Pepper, Milk and Oreo, Cat-Dog, Mario and Luigi); group costumes are a lot of fun to put together. You can dig through thrift shops for cheap props or use cardboard, spray paint, and other materials to create a one-of-a-kind masterpiece that ties in to everyone’s costume.

2. Cheap and Easy with a twist

Some costumes are low-effort and low budget, but you can still own it and make it fabulous! Bunnies, kitties, devils, nurses, and angels are a dime a dozen but that doesn’t mean you can’t be the best one anyone’s ever seen. Play it up with accessories, makeup, and hair to transform what may be typical into a costume that’s anything but.

For example, if you’re a bunny, you’ll have all the accessories down like the ears and tail, but you can make it creative by painting on cartoonish makeup and spraying your hair into a style that you’d never wear normally. One option is to make it unique by modeling yourself into an Alice in Wonderland bunny, and create an over sized pocket watch that you make from a cheap plastic wall clock.

3. You can’t go wrong with Disney.

You can channel your favorite Disney princess or character, whether or not you actually resemble them at all because the outfits are so classic and recognizable. There are so many ways to jazz up a Disney costume from carrying a book as Belle (and maybe having some friends be the teapot and candlestick, and your boyfriend can be beast), to being Ariel and having a fork as a prop (your hilarious bestie can be Sebastian), to being Mulan and having a stuffed dragon as a sidekick. Hot Topic has a ton of cute Disney gear like Jasmine’s bejeweled turquoise headband to Minnie Mouse ears.
