Best DIY Father’s Day Gifts That He’ll Adore You For

Father’s Day gifts don’t have to be super expensive to show your dad how much you love him. The amount of money you spend on a gift should never define it. DIY gifts are such a thoughtful way to show someone you care, plus you can have a lot of fun in the process. Don’t be afraid to get creative! When creating your gifts, you can personalize them to fit your dad’s hobbies and interests. Who wouldn’t love a gift that had so much thought put into it? Thinking of ideas for DIY gifts can be the most challenging part. Check out these DIY Father’s Day gifts any dad is sure to love!

Favorite Places Map

This gift is great for any adventurous dad, and it can be done in a variety of ways. First, think of a few of his favorite places. Do you have a family lake house? A favorite ski mountain? Maybe it’s as simple as the location of his favorite restaurant. Think of things you do as a family. Other ideas include the spot of your favorite family vacation or the house you currently live in, or the house you moved out of. Any significant location to him or your family as a whole can be used.

An easy way to do this is to Google Map the address you want and screenshot it. You can switch this from map to terrain to satellite view depending on what you like best! Using a photo editing app, turn them into different shapes of your choice, and make sure to add a thoughtful memo. Print and frame! He’s sure to hang this right in his office, workspace, or right next to his bed.

String Art Sign

What dad wouldn’t want a sign that constantly reminds him you love him? String art is so trendy and much easier to create than it may seem. All you will need to make this sign is a piece of wood, nails, string, and a hammer. For a full tutorial on how to create string art, click here.

You can go from as simple as a sign stating “I LOVE DAD” to a bit more complicated like a string picture copy of a photo of the two of you, (this will definitely be more of a challenge). He’s sure to be amazed at your artistic abilities and will hang this somewhere he’ll always be able to see it.

Baby Footprint Mug

This gift is for dads who double as grandpas! If you have a baby or a toddler, you’ll need to create this to give as one of your Father’s Day gifts! All you need is a plain white ceramic mug, some sharpies, and some ink. Using the baby’s foot, press it into ink and onto the mug.

Create cute designs with this, whether it’s a hammer or even just a heart. Make sure to use a Sharpie to write your cute note. To bake your DIY mugs, place them in the oven at 350° F for 30 minutes. This will ensure the design stays on overtime. You can be sure he’ll be drinking his morning coffee out of this new mug every day!

Dad’s “Toolbox”

Now you can create your dad’s new “toolbox,” but forget the tools for this gift. Start with buying a six-pack of his favorite drink, whether it’s soda or beer. Whichever drink you choose, you’ll want to make sure it’s a pack of bottles, not cans. Then wrap the case so it’s decorative and looks more like a gift. Take out the bottles on one side of the pack and stuff it with his favorite snacks and candies!

Of course, you’ll still want to give him the other drinks, but for decorative purposes give them to him on the side. He’ll want to start snacking once he gets this tasty gift!

Sign Collage

Similar to the string art, creating a sign for him will mean a lot and he’ll be able to refer to it every day. Find a cute father-daughter quote by searching on Google, Pinterest, etc., or you can use an inside joke, or a saying your dad often uses.

Using a piece of wood as the base, you can use all different types of mediums to bring the sign to live. Print out text, cut pieces out of magazines, paint the words right on the wood, or even use strips of stick-on chalkboard. This Father’s Day Gift is one he’ll never forget!

Handwritten Card

Nothing says I love you more than a handwritten card. Sometimes, we don’t always get to tell our dads everything we want to, so make your thoughts known through writing.

Find a blank card, maybe it has a funny saying on the outside, and fill the inside with as many times as you can say “I love you” and “Thank you.” This gift is sure to bring tears to his eyes, and you can even stuff it with a gift card to his favorite restaurant.

Fishing Basket

Does your dad love fishing? Do you live near the water or own a boat? A fishing basket is such a creative and thoughtful gift to throw together. You’ll need a cooler, this can be as cheap as you want because what matters is what you’ll be stuffing it with! From towels, snacks, hats, fishing rods, and any other gear your dad might need while out by the water.

This will surely be one of your dad’s best Father’s Day gifts yet! To make it even better, go spend the day out fishing with him. Nothing will mean more to him thank partaking in his hobbies and making memories that will last a lifetime together.

Wooden Toolbox

What dad doesn’t like to work in the garage? If your dad has workshop space, this toolbox will be the perfect gift for him. These wooden letters can easily be bought on Amazon or at Michael’s for super cheap, and you can paint them and personalize them as much as you’d like. Using a wooden crate all you have to do is hot glue them on!

You can fill the inside of the crate with tin cans, shelves, or whatever you find easiest to keep the box organized.

Homemade Breakfast

Every dad loves a good homemade meal. Why not create a delicious breakfast for your dad to wake up to on Father’s Day? This is for sure one of the tastiest Father’s Day gifts you can give. Whether he loves pancakes, waffles, eggs, or bagels, set up a breakfast board.

Lay the desired food out, as well as sides of fresh fruit, bacon, breakfast sausage, and pancake/waffle/bagel toppings. He will be so thankful for this delicious meal, just don’t forget about the coffee!

Grillin’ & Chillin’ Sign

Yes, another sign, but this one includes a bottle opener. This is just what your dad needs in his outdoor grill space. Paint on a cute slogan, whether it’s “Grillin’ & Chillin'” or “Bar & Grill.”

Add on multiple hooks so he can easily hang all his grilling utensils, and of course, you’ll want to attach a bottle opener on the sign so he can easily crack open his drinks while he cooks. This sign makes a great gift for any dad that loves to cook!

Grill Basket

Father’s Day is right at the start of summer, and that means the start of grill season. Your dad will be flipping hundreds of burgers, hot dogs, and chicken patties for the next few months to come, so why not help him out?

Fill this basket with his favorite BBQ sauce, meat seasonings, grill utensils, and of course his favorite drinks and snacks! This is one of those Father’s Day gifts that just keeps on giving. Each time he cooks, he can pull out a new ingredient or utensil to use. This is a gift he’ll be using all summer long, and will think of you every time he does!
