10 Beauty Secrets From One College Student To Another

With all of the long classes, sports, parties, and extracurricular activities, it is no surprise that some college students struggle to stay consistent with their beauty routines…which we all know can be pretty important to some. Fortunately, we’re here to help! Below you will find a list of beauty secrets that you’re going to want to add to your everyday routine.

1. Moisturize Daily

This might seem and sound easy but you’d be surprised by how many people struggle with moisturizing their skin on a daily basis. Keeping moisture locked into your skin is crucial, regardless of whether or not you have oily or dry skin. Not only do moisturizers help keep your skin glowing and healthy 24/7, but they also prevent your skin from becoming flaky and cracked.

2. Use Natural Elements

There are so many natural elements out there with plenty of benefits for skin, hair, and the body. Some of these elements include honey, aloe vera, coconut oil, witch-hazel, oats, vitamin c, the list goes on. If you add these to your beauty routine and stay consistent, you will see results and your skin will thank you.

After all, using products with fewer harsh chemicals and more organic/natural ingredients is the way to go.

3. Vaseline

Meet your new best friend. This petroleum jelly-based product can be used to treat more than just dry or sensitive skin. From treating cracked lips to removing makeup with a cotton pad or two, vaseline is a must have in your bathroom. And get this…you can even use it to save split ends! It helps to reduce the appearance of them, along with adding the right amount of shine to give your hair a vibrant, healthy look.

4. Rosehip Oil

A lot of people see the word oil and associate it with everything but a beauty routine and skincare. Of course, some work better than others, rosehip oil being a great one, but there is no need for you to be scared of using certain oils on your face or body. However, if you have sensitive skin, it might be best to try only a little bit at a time and on a small patch of skin just to be safe.

Rosehip oil is extracted from the seeds of the wild rose bush and it has a ton of benefits. It treats wrinkles (you’re never too young to start preventing those), fades scars, firms the skin, and it even has regenerative and healing properties.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar

This might be a hard one for you if you have difficulty getting past the smell of ACV, but you should at least know of some of the benefits that the vinegar has. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties, it stands as a great toner amongst other things. When paired with products like the Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay mask, it works even better! You can literally feel your skin pulsate with that mask on.

6. Exfoliating Lips

Chapstick can only do so much when you have dry, cracked lips. Especially during the colder months. This DIY lip scrub is a lifesaver and well, pretty tasty. Simply mix one teaspoon of honey with two teaspoons of sugar and massage the mixture onto your lips, leaving it on for 5 minutes or so before removing with a damp washcloth or wipe. Honey and sugar make the perfect moisturizing combo for such due to them both being natural exfoliants.

7. Wear Sunscreen Everday

Even if you have oily skin, wearing sunscreen everyday is more important than you might think. Being in college, it is important to take care of yourself, both mentally and physically. Your parents aren’t chasing you around trying to throw some sunscreen on you before you go outside anymore, so it is up to you to get the job done. Even if you wear makeup, you can use either a foundation with a low SPF or put sunscreen on prior to starting your makeup routine. Either way, wearing sunscreen everyday is something you should get into the habit of doing.

8. Jade Roller

Jade rolling is my newfound love. It helps to reduce inflammation and the appearance of under-eye circles, as well as any puffiness of the skin. To give a short definition as to what a jade roller is, you could call it a mini handheld facial massager. They allow for deeper penetration of skincare products, leaving you with glowy, healthy looking skin.

9. Less Is More

I’m someone that prefers a natural makeup look over something too extreme, especially in regard to college and hanging around campus. Besides, using too many makeup products on your skin and not allowing it enough time to breathe can lead to irritation and breakouts — and who wants that?

When it comes to wearing makeup, do what works best for you and makes you feel the most like yourself.

10. Charcoal

Last but not least, charcoal. Activated charcoal is known for having a wide variety of benefits, one of the most popular ones being that it can be used as a teeth whitener. Charcoal can also rid your body of toxins and improve skin health. You can even use it in a mask to help unclog pores and remove any excess oil and dirt from your skin.
