A smokey eye makeup look can help define all eyes, and smokey eyes aren't as hard to do as you may think. Here's how to perfect that smokey style!

I have to admit something – I am addicted to watching makeup tutorials on YouTube. There, I said it. But, anyone who knows me well can tell you that since watching them regularly my makeup skills have improved tenfold! One of the things I have learned from these tutorials is that different styles of smokey eye makeup look good on particular eye shapes. I decided to find 15 smokey eye makeup looks for any eye shape.

1. Standard black

The first one is likely the style that everyone first thinks of when you say ‘smokey eye’. This look is intense so it is very important to ensure you blend the blacks through to your transition shade.

2. Shimmery

For a night out, this shimmery look is ideal. This can be achieved in two ways: the first is by applying simple matte shades and adding shimmer on top, otherwise you can just apply shimmer shadows from the get-go!

3. Smokey wings

For something a little bit different, how about trying a smokey wing. First, just wanted to mention that while searching for a photo to use for this I may have searched ‘smoky wings’ and the results were just pages of chicken wings… Regardless, I think this look is very cool and is a nice change from the standard eyeliner wing everyone first jumps to.

4. Pinks and purples

I have to say, this is probably my favourite style of all. The blend from light to darker shades is just beautiful and the pop of colour makes you stand out from the crowd!

5. Neutral

If a pop of colour isn’t really your style, how about going for something a little less eccentric. A neutral smokey eye is great for those days where you want to do a little more than just your basic day-time makeup.

8. Subtle

If the intense smokey eye doesn’t tickle your fancy, try a more subtle look. Using nudes and browns to create this look is a great way to keep your options open in terms of matching with outfits.

As Halloween is just around the corner, why not start preparing your costume (and makeup)? Try dressing up as a Vampire, and using a red smokey eye to further get in to character!

10. Cut crease

Try something different by implementing a cut crease into your smokey eye look. The ideal cut crease has a very sharp line that separates your eyelid from your crease. Why not give it a go the next time you are heading out?

11. Bright colours

For something even more vibrant than the cut crease, try adding bright colours! This look is obviously not an everyday look, but maybe it could be used for a festival look.

Now it is one thing to just do some smokey eye makeup,  but how about going one step further and matching it to your lip colour? I think this just brings all your makeup together and it looks amazing. It can be achieved with any colour too.

When you go for intense, and I know I have said this before but I need you to know how important it is, you need to blend, blend, blend! When black shadows are involved it can be so easy to just pack it on and then be done, but you need to blend to really achieve that smokey eye!
